Low carb/high protein diet?

Hi, I keep reading about how this works really well for weight loss. I need to lose 2/3 stone. I don’t eat meat so do rely a lot on pasta and bread especially with working full time (toast for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, pasta for tea). I need advice and motivation!! Any tips??

Hi Brewdog ,

Some pastas and breads have more carbs depending on what they are made with. The gluten free bread I eat has less than normal bread. Same with pasta.

I’m on a low carb high protein diet and it helps me get my blood sugars to stay even through the day and evening hours. I use this diet because I have type 1 diabetes. I’ve talked to my doctor about this before starting it and he said it was a good idea. I have carb counting for every meal and snack to do my insulin dose. If I don’t count the carbs, the dose would either lower the blood sugar or raise it too high. Either way is not good. So, count carbs and the low carb high protein diet will help. Ask your doctor, first, though!😀

You’re welcome!😀👍

How low is low? Also too much protein basically turns to carbs. Talk to the doc about the keto diet 75% fat 5% carbs 20% protein you'll also want to research a lot cause a lot of mistakes can be made

Hi Brewdog, there is another way. Since you don't eat meat very much anyway then the whole-food plant-based route might appeal. If you decide to go down the whole-food plant-based route then weight loss won't be as quick as low-carb/high-fat but it will be solid, it will be for life and without any long-term health risks.

With this route many people find weight loss naturally happens with no counting of calories or attention to any dietary matters other than just having a very diverse diet. Some people find weight loss more of a challenge, and for these learning to choose non-starchy fruit & veg such as melons, carrots etc will help. Again because you just get used to choosing a larger group of non-starchy foods then because these are naturally low-calorie items weight loss is a natural consequence, even without exercise.

I went to a well known slimming club and lost 2 stones (slid back since leaving!). We were allowed to eat carbs, but think of your plate in thirds and a generous third should be veg or fruit and then the other two thirds your carbs and protein. Also, drink water.
