Well I've done it, I have decided I am no longer going to eat meat. One I do not really enjoy eating it and two I keep thinking of the animal. I love fish so will continue eating that. Also, I don't like the amount of antibiotics that are pumped into animals as that ends up in the food chain.
Pescatarian: Well I've done it, I have... - Healthy Eating
Pescatarian
Hi Hidden ,
I would like to wish you success in your decision to be a Pescatarian. Looking forward to seeing some Fishy dishes, and Veggie meals - should be really tasty!
Zest
Thank you Zest and I will be making a nut roast for dinner for Christmas Day but don't know what recipe I'm going to use yet, I've found one but it's 816 calories per serving - cripes!!
Alicia
Well good for you Alicia, I think we've messed around with far too many things regarding our food and I wonder if people know what they're really eating, half the time.
And if you're not enjoying it that speaks for itself, its like becoming aware of the politics of food and then taking responsibility for what on our plates... 🍽
So I wish you well with this 😊
Jerry 😊
Thank you Jerry, I appreciate your words of encouragement. We certainly don't know what's in our food and really don't know what we are eating.
I don't like meat anymore, I was a Pescatarian a few years ago and really should have stayed that way but there seemed to be something missing from my diet and looking back now it would have been the 'alternative meat substitutes' I was eating, I make a lot more of my own food now so won't be relying on rubbish this time round.
We certainly do need to take some responsibility on what we are putting in our mouth i.e. eating the foods that we know are good for us.
Alicia
Well done!
I've been vegetarian most of my adult life (only recently vegan) and I've never regretted it - I'm sure it'll work out great for you
I am also a veggie who eats fish occasionally. Meal planning takes a bit more thought but that's a good thing really. Snacks remain a problem😜😀
Hi there Lippysue
Thank you for your reply and agree that meal planning takes more thought but luckily enough my hubby and me have been eating differently for years now so I am used to making two meals. I now have a slow cooker and that's a boon as I've made a veggie stew, veggie curry and veggie chilli in it in the past few weeks and they are glorious.
I agree with you re snacks, they are a problem with me as well. I'm okay with breakfast as I love porridge but lunch time is a pain, I had a toasted cheese panini today as I didn't know what else to eat. Mind you, I have some sliced smoked salmon in the freezer so I may have cream cheese and salmon for my lunch tomorrow - I also have to oat biscuits. I need to make some homemade soups then I'll be sorted and some nice salads in the summer.
Alicia
Hi Alicia, I am also pescatarian for exactly the same reasons you describe above. You'll expand your repertoire of lunches as you do more, lots of different cheeses, eggs in sandwiches or sliced frittatas, I make ( or buy fresh ones if I'm short on time) chunky veg soups with lentils or split peas , then with a slice of whole grain bread you have a complete protein rye bread is my favourite. Leftovers heated in the microwave, I use quorn pieces and sausages quite a lot and they are good with salad in summer and in stews in the winter. Lots of vegetarians eat beans , I can't but they are good for protein and filling you up. Nut roast is great sliced up as leftovers. Hope you might get a couple of ideas from this and good luck 😀
Lunch for me is usually soup or maybe a salad in the summer.
I love soup and experiment a lot with ingredients. Sometimes just whatever is in the fridge with some stock, a tin of tomatoes and a few lentils turns out to be delicious.
I do love homemade soup and certainly need to start making some, as it happens I have bought some extra red peppers to make some.
I'm not so keen on salad as there seems to be very little choice out there for salad leaves. I have been watching Ben Fogle on Lives in the Wild and one programme about 4 weeks ago now featured a man living on a island and using the leaves that were growing naturally for salad and they looked really yummy, he said they were far better than limp, flavourless lettuce. The programme was very interesting.
I do need to look at my diet more and broaden my horizons so to speak.
Hello Hidden .
I have always been a meat eater, according to my mother ever since I was small. However, recently I find myself cutting down on meat and eating more tuna. I think it's healthier for me. I am not sure I can go completely vegetarian, but I am determined to change my diet a bit. I think I will feel better. And yes, I think of the animals too. 😑
Thanks for sharing.

Hi there Cas
Thank you for replying and I was always a meat eater and became a Pescatarian around 2004 when my daughter finished University and we both ate like that for a few years and then around 2008 she came back home to live with us for a little while and started eating meat again so I followed.
When I was a Pescatarian there seemed to be something missing from my diet and looking back now it would have been the 'alternative meat substitutes' I was eating, I make a lot more of my own food now so won't be relying on rubbish this time round.
I did miss chicken but lately I have found that I don't like the texture or the fact that it was once a live animal. I also missed bacon but went off that a long time ago. That's it now, I will never go back to eating meat.
All the very best to you re changing your diet and you know this Forum is excellent for support and recipes.

I became a pescetarian this summer for the same reasons. Mainly for me it's the sickening cruelty of enslaving animals for my own variety. I just couldn't carry on with it. I was sickened by myself. I'm a much much happier person now I feel free of that guilt
Hope you find it as easy and liberating as i have!
Hi there HappyBeee
I couldn't agree with you more, every time I was putting meat into my mouth I kept thinking of the animal and not only that, I wasn't actually enjoying the texture. I was a Pescatarian a few years ago and I went back to eating meat as I thought my body was missing out on minerals etc but realise now it probably was the rubbish I ate i.e. I ate things like cauliflower cheese bakes, such rubbish. I make everything from scratch now.
Also, when I was a Pescatarian I missed chicken and bacon but don't like either now so I think that answers that.
I have a slow cooker now and had a bean curry last night that I made in it a couple of weeks ago and froze the extra curry I had made - it was delicious.
