Do women who wear makeup feel naked without it?

Could you go through a whole day without wearing any?

Hi Jim,

Yes, I can go without make up, not a problem, but feel better if it's summer & my face has some natural sunniness 😊, otherwise I look a bit sickly. My face doesn't tan easily for some reason.

😊

β€’ in reply tokaraph1951

Ah! so you can take it or leave it. ☺

Yes, more or less. If I'm going out anywhere special I like to put my 'face' on. I sort of feel more dressed up. Topped off with a touch of perfume 😊

β€’ in reply tokaraph1951

How long does it take you to put your face on? πŸ˜€

I can wear minimal make up but might find it hard to go totally without. I think I would adapt though. I've never slapped it on

β€’ in reply tomysmugcat

Does it make you feel more confident when you wear it?

karaph1951 profile image
karaph1951β€’ in reply tomysmugcat

I hate to see slapped on makeup. The more natural the better. My sister is unrecognisable without her makeup on.!! That's just barmy. It's just meant to enhance, not disguise. Unless one has a specific thing like a scar that one might want to disguise 😊

I'd struggle without mine lol.... I'm waiting in my suitcase which decided to stay on in Spain rather than come home with me 😀😀😀 and guess what's in it?? Yep all my makeup

β€’ in reply toMissAzzee

Oh no! What are you going to do? πŸ˜‚

MissAzzee profile image

Lol, Ive called the airline who have assured me the suitcase will be delivered this evening.... until then I'm relying on odds and ends that weren't taken on hols

β€’ in reply toMissAzzee

You have enough to keep you going then, good πŸ˜€

I was wondering how you would answer the door to the suitcase guy if you hadn't any make up on. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚

I love wearing make up. I call it my mask.

You hide behind it?

I could go without if i wasnt leaving the house. But if going out i like to wear a little. My make up litally takes 2mins to put on. I only use a smear of foundation then a tiny amount of mascara

β€’ in reply toxOceanx

Green make up I take it. πŸ˜‰

It depends on where I am going and what I am doing. Generally I don't wear it unless I am going somewhere nice or want to feel a bit special.

Sometimes I just need to put on a little lipstick and that will be it, because my lips are a pale colour and I find that a bit of lipstick can make my face look a bit brighter. Other times I'll go all out with foundation, eyeshadow, masacara, lipstick.

I suffered with acne until I my late 20's and I had decided the less stuff I put on my face the more likely the spots would go away.

I now have a small collection of makeup all of it mineral based, so it is light and actually makes my skin feel nice when I wear it.

Most days I don't bother, thought. :-D

Interesting question, why do you ask?

When I was young I could not step outside the door without putting on eye make-up and lipstick. Used to sit ages worrying about what it looked like. On evenings out, worrying about it wearing off etc.

But thankfully, as the years have passed, to heck with it, if people don't like my face then don't look at it attitude arrived. Much more liberating. Men didn't wear make-up and lots of them were pretty ugly to look at.

Sick of society and the media telling us what we should look like. Prefer to be an individual and suit myself.

Have never dyed my hair either. Happy with what nature gave me.

Going to continue growing old disgracefully!

β€’ in reply toholly2

I ask because I am just curious as to why people need to cover their faces when they go out.

I agree with what you say by the way.

holly2 profile image
holly2β€’ in reply to

It is because girls want to grow up too fast. Even in my earlier days. I was allowed to start wearing lipstick when I was 12 at weekends. And experiment with eye makeup when I was 14. Once I left school and started work, then on when this stuff every day of the week and, yes, I felt inadequate without it. How sad is that for a young person.

Glad I am an older one now and would not turn the clock back for anything.

I thought girls were just copying their mothers but maybe you are right.

DRS54 profile image
DRS54

Hmm, guess I am not your target responder, but here we go. I have hardly ever worn make-up as my half sister was 7 years older than me and wore a lot, so I rebelled by not experimenting when I was young. The odd eye-shadow apart for a couple of parties, when I was young, I am totally make-up free. Worked as a management consultant and didn't feel the necessity then, either. So no, don't feel naked without it, on the contrary find it too hot to wear foundation on my face. Doubt I start the habit in my retirement years - I like my lie-ins!

β€’ in reply toDRS54

So never use it and just go the natural way. You saved yourself a lot of time and money I bet.

DRS54 profile image
DRS54β€’ in reply to

I wouldn't know - looking at the other responses, time saving may only be 5 minutes a day. But it's the late night activity of removing the stuff, that I would find really annoying. So a parallel question now: Do men who shave feel scruffy when they don't?

β€’ in reply toDRS54

I don't feel scruffy but I feel uncomfortable if I don't shave for a few days.

DRS54 profile image
DRS54β€’ in reply to

Hmm, I guess you would need to cut your beard eventually, anyway, so you don't fall over it. Though I wonder how many hours you have "wasted" in your life with shaving? OH has a beard, by the way, but even he trims it now and then, so I don't think Father Christmas has moved in.

β€’ in reply toDRS54

Would take a while to grow it that long I think. Probably used a lot of time up shaving but I wouldn't fancy a beard myself.

DRS54 profile image
DRS54β€’ in reply to

Happy shaving, in that case - after all it helps to keep the weight down as well. ;)

β€’ in reply toDRS54

Very true πŸ˜‰

Thank you.

I'm nearly 70 but I don't go out without make up. I feel I look better with it on, and also 20 years ago I developed Vitiligo (loss of skin pigment) so my face is very pale without it. I remember years ago, watching an interview with Joan Collins. She was asked if she'd had any cosmetic surgery on her face and she said she hadn't, she said she used moisturiser day and night because if you have a table that you never polished, it would crack, so it's the same with your face, without moisturiser it would wrinkle. I also feel that with so much pollution outside that if you wear make up, it will protect your skin from it. But I think we all know that good skin, like everything else is in the genes.

β€’ in reply toronnie13swann

I eat coconut oil every day and it keeps my skin good.

Have you ever went without make up?

ronnie13swann profile image
ronnie13swann

I don't always wear it in the house but I never go out without it on, as I say I feel I look better with it on. I don't wear a lot, it takes me about 5 minutes to apply it. I sometimes wonder, if I live to be in my nineties, will I still feel the need to wear it.

β€’ in reply toronnie13swann

If you enjoy wearing it then why not.

Hi Hidden ,

On 'Loose Women' today they discussed the 'most googled' questions that men and women google, and one of them from the men was about 'why women wear make-up' - which makes me think you might be psychic, as you were asking this question yesterday!

I wear very little make-up these days - often just a moisturising cream with an SPF to protect me from the sun, and tend to only put make-up on when I'm going out for a meal - I feel fine without make-up - especially as my skin has improved since I have been eating more healthily.

Hope you're having a good Bank holiday weekend.

Zest :-)

β€’ in reply toZest

Well I might be psychic who knows πŸ˜€

Did you wear more when you where younger?

Healthy eating sure is good for the skin.

I worked today, no bank holiday for me.

Hope yours was good. πŸ˜€

Yes, I did wear make-up when I was younger.

Just popping out for an evening walk now - hope you have a lovely evening. :-)

I wear mascara and eyeliner plus some lip balm. I can go without it but It makes me feel more feminine when I wear it 😁If that makes sense.

β€’ in reply toAngep

Do you feel masculine if you don't wear it? πŸ˜‰

Angep profile image
Angepβ€’ in reply to

Nah πŸ˜‚ I don't need to not wear make up to feel masculine!!! I'm a northern lass and we speak as we find. I think I'm more of a man than my other half when something needs sorting out!! He's cringing in the back ground when I'm being assertive πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ all good fun 😁

β€’ in reply toAngep

So you are not one to mess with then. πŸ˜‚

Angep profile image
Angepβ€’ in reply to

Fraid not!!!πŸ˜‚ I'd rather help someone than hurt them but I can't abide rude people. Interesting question about make up though!!! I know for some people it's a mask!! for different reasons.

β€’ in reply toAngep

Same here. ☺

Good point about it being a mask for different reasons.

I guess it's all up to genes. I don't really need much. Lipgloss and I'm out, but enjoy glamming it up here and there.

But, no, to answer your question.

The more days without it, the healthier I look.

I love my scrubs and oils better!

β€’ in reply toWheatgirl53

Body scrubs and oils?

I have some light acne problems and it's not visible while I use foundation, so it makes me more confidant)) sometimes I don't wear it to let my skin breath and have rest. I also like lipstick becouse my skin is white and I look a bit pale without it)

So it's really when you feel like it?
