Honey and Cinnamon benefits

A friend recently told me to mix a tablespoon of honey with a teaspoon of cinnamon to reduce a hacking cough, are there any views out there regarding the efficacy of this practice?

Hi Phillip,

I've used honey and lemon as a drink that has helped my cough before, and found it helped a lot. I think that cinnamon would add a lovely spicy aspect to it, and may be helpful as I've read that honey and cinnamon are both anti-bacterial and anti-viral, so that may be why they help? I know from personal experience that the honey coated and soothed my throat, so I thought that was beneficial in terms of how it made me feel.

There might be some studies out there about the efficacy? I haven't looked into that, but maybe you can find some online?

How is your cough now, and do you think it helped you?

Hi Zest,

thanks for your reply, last night was the first I tried it, but found this morning that my cough was not so vicious, I think I shall continue with it. Also thanks for the comments re honey, I think I shall look further into honey and other beneficial home remedies for other ailments, although don't have that many, thank god. with the Health service as it is, I think it may be worthwhile investigating alternative routes to health, fitness and wellbeing.

Good health, fitness and wellbeing to you.

Best regards,

Phill

I have a remedy for night cough that works pretty well.

Hi jimtom,

thanks for that, but I don't have a night cough, my only night problem is switching off my mind, unfortunately I have found nothing for that, in sleep mode I am consciously aware of everything going on around me at all times and am never truly asleep.

Best regards,

Phill

I am the same some nights, my mind wont rest and I don't sleep. I don't know of any way to stop it when it does happen.

Thanks for the reply Phill.
