This page will give you the government Eatwell plate which gives the proportions of ea h food group that should be consumed daily. All the nutrients ts are important to some degree. There is no one that is more valuable the others for good health.

If there needs to be weight loss then decrease portion size and definatEly decrease the amount of food with added sugar.

I'm afraid that I don't wholly agree with deejames. The NHS Eatwell plate is not totally correct in fact there are some statements which are totally wrong. For example, " skimmed milks contain all the important nutritional benefit of milk". Skimmed milk has had vitamins A, E and D removed. Drink whole milk and unpasteurised if you can get it.

Statement 2. "unsaturated fats are healthier fats". Not true and was shown to be wrong more than a decade ago. Some medical authorities even go so far as to suggest that these seed oils actually promote heart disease rather than prevent it.

I suggest you read a couple of articles I have seen: healthscams.org.uk/milk.html and another at: healthscams.org.uk/the-trut... You will see that references are quoted. Lastly Soy milk is shown alongside cows milk; have a look at: healthscams.org.uk/soy-food... I hope you find those references useful.

Eat what your grandparents ate and you won't go far wrong.

Hi. I find this site troubling. The articles I looked at gave no references to any scientific research so checking information is impossible.

I suggested the Eatwell plate as a visual reminder of the proportions of food groups recommended for daily consumption. Individual diets vary.

In my view there is too much science and not enough common sense; we are going down ever narrowing corridors. I am inclined to agree with the comments on the three pages I mentioned especially for the seed oils as the description given for their production is horrific. We are talking about food not chemical substances more suited to industrial use. My last remark about eating what our grandparents or even our great grandparents ate is quite reasonable.

My three comments are quoted from the Eatwell document; if you look through it you will see them.
