Fussy eater: Hi I'm new to this.my main... - Healthy Eating
Fussy eater
I get my picky grandchildren to consume all sorts of healthy fresh foods they wouldn't normally eat by blending them up in a homemade fruit smoothie. If there is enough fruit in the smoothie, then the sweet taste of fruit dominates the overall taste experience, even though I usually add greens or root veg in my grandchildren's smoothies. They don't make a fuss about textures or flavours because the smoothie is thick like an ice cream milk shake and tasty like a fruit salad. The more natural coloured foods you consume, the wider range of nutrients you'll absorb.
You may be picky about a lot of fruit and veg, so I'd suggest concentrating on the fresh fruit you like. You could put things like fresh banana, berries, mango, pineapple, grapes, apple (anything you like) into a blender with some apple juice or water and blend it into a super healthy tasty breakfast smoothie. Just think how many nutrients it would contain, plus it would give you so much energy.
You could then add a few greens - like parsley, spinach, or kale - which contain healing chlorophyll and would boost the nutrient content without significantly changing the flavour. Add a small piece of beetroot to improve your stamina and to give the smoothie an amazing colour. You could add oily nuts - like walnuts and brazils - to feed your brain, boost your immune system and oil your joints. You can also add flax or hemp seed oil for some healthy omega 3s that don't come from rancid fish guts. Medicinal herbs and spices - like ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, etc. - can be added to improve the flavour or to treat a specific condition (e.g. ginger for colds, cinnamon for diabetes).
Of the many benefits of drinking a healthy smoothie like this, no matter what else you eat that day, you know you've at least given yourself a huge nutritional boost that was quick and easy to swallow. And it will probably carry you over many of the junk food hurdles you might subject your body too later.
I am a bit unimaginative - but like the sound of what you are saying. Do you know any websites with nutritionally good smoothie recipes??
There are literally thousands of recipes online if you do a Google search for smoothie recipes. However, so many include some form of dairy or chocolate or peanut butter or sweeteners or protein powders or frozen fruit or ice, none of which I use in my smoothies, that its hard for me to recommend them. You may like them, but I tend to stick to just pure fresh, unprocessed plant foods - fruit, greens, nuts and seeds - as Nature made them. I usually put whatever fruit and greens I have in a blender, top it up with pure apple or pineapple juice, blend it and drink it straight away.
