you can only try less calories, the recomended calories are to maintain body weight you have to go lower to loose, and low carb

trying to loose as well and was told about the carbs the other week, have lost 7 pounds, and a cup of warm water when you first get up instead of tea seems to help as well ( not cold)

Thanks for that will try the warm water. The recommended calories for me is around 1500 so I thought 1200 would be fine. Have bought a measuring tape today to check if I'm loosing inches. Good luck with your own weight loss x

I had this - the scales just would not shift and I was only eating 1200 cals a day. I did 5:2 and it triggered it - once I had done it a couple of weeks and I still do it on and off the weight came off. I found doing my 2 days at the weekend helped because weekends I am more busy. I work from home so way too easy to snack and gorge :-) All the best to you.

Thanks for sharing

I joined Slimming World, like you I didn't seem to be able to shift the weight by calorie counting. I think I was getting portion sizes wrong... Nowadays I mostly eat fish, chicken and vegetables and anything else is an occasional treat. Have lost three and a half stone so far, so it's working!

Well done on your weight loss. I have been to my docs today as medication I take may not be helping. Hoping a change of meds might help.

It's surprising how much difference medication can make - I find that carbs (bread, pastry etc) stop my weight loss in its tracks, no matter how little I eat...

Can't remember when I last had bread, occasionally have pasta, I find they bloat me. I usually only have starchy carbs once a day. Good luck reaching your goals

Good luck to you too!

It just goes to show we are all different, 😊 a largely veggie based diet suits me and I get steady weight loss, plenty fruit and low gi carbs 😊 too much meat and I seem to get stagnant, bloated and weight loss slows 😕 Atkins Diet made me feel just awful 😞

It's about knowing ourselves and our bodies 😊

I would recommend looking up the Minnesota study as it explains what happens when the body is malnourished and what happens in terms of weight loss/gain. When the body is starved it goes into shut down mode, and therefore conserves the energy you do eat. With lower calorific intake, your metabolism slows down too again making it easier to hold onto food eaten and harder to lose weight. The majority of quick initial weight loss is entirely water and if you restrict further weight loss levels out and takes much longer. You will experience greater fluctuations (please be aware that everyone has fluctuations, and this can be a result of it being warmer, you drinking more the previous day, period etc.) You should try and weigh yourself at maximum fortnightly as this gives a more accurate picture than daily. If the body has been malnourished then as soon as it has more energy again, a lot of the water weight lost refills and your body mass increases again.

It is important that you eat your recommended intake (I am surprised that it is consider 1500, as that's quite low and would imply a very sedentary lifestyle) to prevent slowing down of metabolism. I would avoid taking carbs out of your diet entirely as they help sustain energy and prevent bingeing.

I noted you are frustrated, but real weight loss can take several months. The same also works with weight gain. It has taken the best part of a year to increase my weight by 1 stone. 3 stone is a lot of weight to lose and so would take a lot longer. If you RDA is really 1500 calories, then I would definitely advise increasing activity.

Hope this helps.
