Any vegetarians out there?

Hi I've just joined the healthy eating community as I'm getting serious about my health and following the 12 week plan. Looking for tip guidance and encouragement for a healthy eating plan. I'd like to eat more vegetarian food too but a bit stuck in the meat and two veg groove.

Hi, welcome to the community. In answer to your question I will suggest going to Pinterest for starters there are so many yummy veggie recipes which I can happily say I have tried.

I am not veggie but I do incorporate the food into my diet. I go entirely veggie every other day the trick is to have a menu plan a week ahead, create your shopping list. I do my food shop on Fridays after work as it's the only convenient time for me, in addition, I like my food to be fresh. By the middle of the week I buy more fruits and vegetables as I eat quite a lot of it.

But that's just me it may not be the same for you besides you can buy frozen I am just not a fan.

I hope this helps. All the best and do let us know how you are getting on.

There is no such thing as vegetarian food Just a diet that doesn't incorporate meat. If you plan to cut out most meat from your diet you should think about your protein and certain vitamin and mineral sources but if its just odd meals without meat then if you have a balanced diet anyway you will be fine. Try not to think about replacing a bit of flesh with a bit of something else unless it's veggie burgers or fritters. They are delicious though.

Watch out for too much cheese. That's a mistake many people make and cheese in quantity is fattening.

It can be harder work cooking without meat but very rewarding.

We don't eat meat at home but my husband works on oil rigs where ethe vegetarian choice is terrible so he goes back to meat and there is a lot of it. He comes home hevier and feeling horribly bloated. Skin not good either.

I am a vegetarian for several reasons and one of those is not wanting to put the hormones and antibiotics that they pump into livestock into my body.

Good luck with your experiment. Loads of great recipes online. Stock up on herbs and spices though.

Thanks Dee. I have cut out red meat but eat fish eggs and chicken which I like. Thanks for the reminder about cheese you're right it's easy to put cheese on everything for protein forgetting it's so fatty. Another Dee mentioned Pinterest which I've just looked at and its great. Definitely signing up to that. Thanks for your tips

Florence, like you I eat more chicken but fish is one I still struggle with, even though I know I need it for omega but I am trying. I haven't completely cut out red meat cos my doctor recommends it due to anemia. But I only have it about twice a month. I'm never going to go veggie as I like chicken a lot, lol.

Healthy eating is not as boring as some people make out, it's fun shopping, cooking and eating food you have made with your own hands, knowing it was based on what you choose.

Have fun.

My wife took Floradix to resolve her pernicious anaemia if that helps. It is a tonic made of veg and herbs.

They say undigested meat, cheese and other waste can block up the body's ability to produce red cells. So less meat is good but my wife does lover her meat - lol
