I had a subarachnoid hemmorage back in 2020 that I had a coil fitted which left me suffering with bad headaches amongst other things.i then started getting a different kind of headache which was more like a pressure headache.after 6 lumber punctures I was then diagnosed with hydrocephalus.in 2022 I had a vp shunt fitted which I still have.the pressure headaches did get alot better but then the bad headache came back.i have it everyday and it doesn't go away even with medication.i was referred to neurologist who sent me a questionnaire out and then told me to go cold turkey off my meds and then try introducing them again to see if any work.not really what I wanted to here without even seeing me.i have an appointment with my GP this week to look at playing around with my meds but I was just wondering if other people have the same bad headache everyday and how they cope to do any daily tasks. Thanks

Hi Roundhead, like you I had a aneurysm, back in 2012, it has undergone several surgeries as it’s very unpredictable, and eventually ruptured in 2017, I was very lucky to survive, but I did, it has had several stents and coils fitted, I have always suffered from bad headaches, and like a tension pain when bending over, sleeping on my right, this is like a sharp pain in the back of my head, where my aneurysm is. I take regular paracetamols, and I have tried lots of different headache tablets and am now on Topimarate, it has helped, but I know when my paracetamols are due, as the headache starts to return. I wish you lots of luck on your journey, as you are only just starting if I can help with anything else jump on and I will do what I can love Alice xx
Hi, going cold turkey with the painkillers does actually make sense. There is an actual condition called "painkiller headache". The brain can get overwhelmed by painkillers, therefore it starts to sense pain where there isn't pain, hence, although counterintuitive, stopping painkillers for a period and then reintroduce them can help. Good luck 🍀
I’m with you on this. I had a bad blow to my head which left me with constant migraines. Aspirin stopped working after a while. But you have options with Botox, Ajovy , rimigepant and a host of other meds such as Amitryptyline etc. Do try those first. Nothing has worked for me, but it could work for you. Hang on in there.
hi there I have the same kind of pressure headache which is mostly when I cough sneeze or bend so it’s pretty much constant. I’m still on naproxen. I have to distract myself after doing a task by sitting painting or pottering in the garden/greenhouse . I hope you find a solution soon. 🤗🤩
In hospital, all those of us with brain injuries grumbled about either constant reminders to drink more water or the frequent urinating which resulted.
After discharge, when the headaches returned, my neurologist, like yours, suggested I stop the pain meds (CoCodamol) and religiously drink 2 litres of tap water daily. I admit to settling for one litre, but it really helped.
I still use CoCodamol for joint pain when needed, but the headaches are infrequent now, and less severe.
If your issue is 'Medication overuse headache' (MOH) I hope this helps or, if not, that you find other methods of pain relief soon. . .
Best wishes, Cat.
