Some good news

I've posted a number of times about how I find it so disheartening that companies don't make a reasonable adjustment for call recording by customers with memory problems. I even had this problem with the Micro-Soft Disability helpline.

Anyway, after a number of month of talking to them about the problem they are changing their global policy. Now you can ask to record and if the call handerling is okay with it, fine, if not, they need to pass the call to someone who does consent to being recorded. A great victory, its such a shame that we even need to do this but at least this worked out :) I'm keen to get other companies to have the same policy but thats for another day.

Well done you.

If you want all private companies, and I suggest government institutions too, to allow voice recording, follow up your 'win' by going to your MP to bring it up in parliament.

You could experiment by phoning your MP and asking if you can record the conversation.

Would your MP allow it? If not, would he/she/other support you?

I'd like to see if the DWP, NHS, justice system, solicitors and charities would have to do it. They would if private companies have to, otherwise it's discrimination against private companies.

Good idea pv, I have questioned my public sector employer as they hand type meetings with me and then issue it a month later expecting me to remember. They say you are not allowed to record regardless. When I say they missed bits out like handing over keys and equipment, they say nobody else is questioning it?

I will pass this point to my mp and the Scottish government.

Thanks

Don't forget there are software packages that can read text out loud. So if they give you written instructions which may not stick in your memory you can get the software to read it for you out loud. You can use that as a memory/ reminder tool.

Have you been assessed for aphasia, verbal/ text/ word memory because it can be retrained.
