My girlfriend had a tbi last July which she had a subdural hematoma and a subarachnoid hemorrhage after a bicycle accident and she making great progress with out the help of specialists because of the government health care insurance. I was just wondering if anyone had some tips that could help with fatigue or are there specific types of sunglasses that can help with her light sensitivity. Really anything thank you

Have you checked on the Brain Injury Association of America website.

biausa.org/public-affairs/m...

You have plenty of options in the US for testing and treating visual issues.

mindeye.com/

These are expensive but there are other providers.

Look for behavioral optometrists.

Ask the folks on this US based facebook page

the fatigue is due to how much harder it is to process information and complete tasks after a brain injury, your brain uses an incredible amount of energy just to keep your body doing simple things like breathing but add in a brain injury where the brain needs to find new pathways to complete activities and it requires even more. It’s important to recorded fatigue and take regular breaks which could be a nap or just time in a low sensory, low demand environment.

Hiya, first time I've been on for a while & I see a post, the kind I've reacted to so many times in the past. As regards to fatigue I can't advocate enough the 20 minute ' power ' nap (as it was referred to in the 90's ;o).

As anyone who has had a brain / head injury will be aware of, is the infamous ' brain fog ', but what I discovered changed my life 100% for the better & has helped so many others - Have a look at my previous posts cos hopefully it will improve your life & recovery too. And after 30 years in, I have come across many other things that may help - just ask & I'll be more than happy to try n help ;o)

I had a road traffic accident almost 3 years ago and the fatigue is the worst I've ever had. She needs to take regular breaks as even doing the simplist things will be tiring her out. No taking breaks make me I'll so I need to do that. I wear sunglasses at the moment for light sensitivity. She could do that?Sending good wishes to both of you

Hiya Cat, I just replied to Joroo above re fatigue & as I said to her, what I came across about 10 years after my accident, cos fatigue was totally debilitating & there is no way I would have made the recovery I have made if I hadn't come across the 20 minute nap (But it has t be done proply - everyone will have a nap, but in a way this is different & so much better. Have a look at my previous posts, give it a go & then promote this to others - it really is life changing Xxx

I will do as my support workers have started introducing the 20 mins power nap. I never feel like it's enough but I need to give it time

U do, but U have t make sure u get up, so easy t go back t sleep otherwise & then it's just like takin a normal every day nap - Use my tip of drinkin a pint of water (or at least a cup) so U will need t goto the loo when your alarm goes off ;o)
