Hi Poddy . .
How are you coping ? I see from your profile that you've a paralysis issue. Can you tell us more about yourself ; i.e. what type of brain injury you have, and whether you have support from family.
It's hard for anyone dealing with the aftermath of brain injury ; more so for some than for others depending on the nature and extent of the damage.
I had a brain haemorrhage 13 years ago and managed to keep my independence, but life is very different now, compared to life beforehand.
Hope to chat with you soon . . . Cat 🙂
Hi I was hit over the head 2oo2 can walk in doors with tolly thing chair outside my family don't talk 2 me don't no y use 2 me kid dons but rest don't
Parlised down right side
Had beeld on brain
It can be so isolating living with brain injury. At the present I'm pretty housebound with a knee injury (awaiting surgery 3yrs) but at least I can potter in the garden.
My mobility became poor after the haemorrhage (poor balance) but right now, walking is painful. So it's a matter of doing the essentials and passing time with tv, crosswords and reading.
Many folk here will tell you how friends tend to back off when they find we're not the person we once were. I'm in touch with my family, and my son calls on Fridays, but he and my daughter work long hours and have their own families & responsibilities.
I'm sorry you family aren't supportive Poddy ; I can only imagine how hurtful that is.
You mentioned you used to visit the Headway day centre ; can I ask what stopped you from going ?
And have you spoken with the helpline to see what might be available in terms of support ?
Please keep in touch here. See you soon I hope. . . . Cat x
y stop head way was moved town and started drinking dont now 7 years stopped x
Yes, same here. We had a day centre but that moved too. Have you spoken with the helpline staff though Poddy ? If not, try them on freephone 0808 800 2244 for advice on extra support.
But do keep talking here . . . .
I used to enjoy a drink, but was warned by surgeon about the dehydration effects on an injured brain, so avoided alcohol for 13 years now.
Gave up the ciggies too whilst 'out of it' in hospital ; it just hit me one day that I'd come through withdrawal ......after years of trying & failing !
Really cold here in NW today ; snuggled up with tea & home made mice pies . . x
same here, no day centre to socialise?! Only fun is Costa for coffee, see people. No family, parents all gone not even a social worker to sort stuff . Only thing I do is smile to spite my brain injury!! Try it, saved me many times
Hi Poddy,
Any luck with the Headway helpline ?
Freezing cold here again today, but sunny. I'm on the Manchester/Cheshire border ; whereabouts are you on the map ?
I'm wondering..... how do you manage for groceries and other essentials ? If it's of interest to you, there's help to be had with practical stuff from the organization SCOPE. You can ask for a face to face assessment on your needs on 0808 800 3333, maybe with back-up from your GP.
Thinking of you & hope you're coping . . Cat. x
