I’ve posted many times in the last ten years since our 29 year old son sustained a severe brain injury in a car crash. At this time in 2013 he was still in intensive care and, although out of his induced coma, he was showing very few signs of movement. For months we had no idea what kind of future he might have, if he survived. He couldn’t walk, talk, feed himself or manage his personal care, and had very little functioning memory. For the next two years, he sometimes believed I was a ‘nice stranger’ and often didn’t recognise me as his mum. Yes, Christmas 2013 was heartbreaking.
I know that many of you reading this will have gone through (or are still going through) very similar, devastating times and I sincerely hope your Christmas will be peaceful and full of love.
Our Christmas this year will be quiet and spent with family. We can reflect on our son’s steady improvement over the last ten years and acknowledge how much our experiences have changed us all. This year our son, amazingly, has just got back into full time employment - and can look forward to his own wedding in the spring of 2024.
Keep strong, keep hopeful and have a wonderful Christmas. Xxx

Thank you Elkay. Jack started playing pool on Tuesday when I went to visit him I was totally amazed we have been trying for weeks to get him to play to no avail, but Tuesday he just picked up the cue and started potting balls. I was so emotional x
Hi Elkay, wow what an amazing story, and so much hope for our devastating families on here, who are going through something similar. Merry Christmas to you and your son, and lots of best wishes for the future, lots of luck and love Alice xx
so wonderful to hear about your son’s recovery .. no one on here what’s to be here but hearing about your son shines a light on where we all will be in 10 years time .. not everyone will progress as your son has but we truthfully have no idea what we will achieve .. best wishes and a merry Christmas to you and your family .
