I was on an induced coma for 4 weeks, apparently my first word was mum!! My only memory there was my mini law buying me a pair of socks, bro taking me down to have a McD! 6 months in various clinics. Years to be more with it?! To rebuild me? 23 years on still many things to relearn! Friends, family lost. A tough time ahead? Please visit here to vent y frustrations, rant to unseen people who’ve been there?! Hope we can help, suggestions or just ease y rants? Keep safe n chat soon!!

The brain has its own set of rules. We are designed to recover quicker from things that damaged regularly. So a bruise will be days, but a ligament (which doesn't get much blood supply) will be much slower. And then we have the brain, the most well protected part of the body. As its rarely damaged its not designed well for self repair. This doesn't mean it's not repairing, it will be. But its a much slower and more uncertain recovery process. What are the doctors saying?

I know I often tell of my niece, but she's a fine example of survival after a head-on RTA and many months of coma.

Hopes of her recovery were fading but her dad still visited daily. She woke one day in his presence and, after extensive rehab, she was back home with partner and child.

Your friend's brain will be quietly fighting to recalibrate and there's still scope for visible progress m'love.

I'm in a similar situation and I hope it's okay to post like I am. But I'm absolutely in love with the real time stories from everyone as I can related to almost every post that I have read.

Hi. Good news he is off life support. When you say hasn't woken up yet, how long has it been? My partner took 3 days to start to wake up and we were all worried, doctors included because all the sedatives would have been out of her system by this time and she showed no signs of waking. When she did start to wake up, move her limbs, etc., it was a huge relief. Are the doctors seeing brain activity? My partner showed no change in brain activity after the process started to wake her up. It can take a long time for people to emerge from a coma, and even though it is induced coma in most cases, the brain is still healing and the time it heals most is when you are sleeping. Best wishes!
