Turned down by the RHN

I recently emailed the admissions office at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability in Wandsworth, London to see if I met their criteria for referral as, over four years after my ABI, I have received no rehabilitation. The RHN is not an NHS hospital so it has the freedom to pick and choose who it treats. I received a quick and sympathetic response but not a positive one. They do not offer assessments by specialists or outpatient appointments so, if you are a carer of someone suffering from a brain injury that affects consciousness, I would suggest you contact the admissions office for advice. Don’t, however, assume your relative/ patient will be accepted.

Whilst this was a disappointment, it has loaded the gun pointed at the Secretary of State from whom I shall ask my MP to obtain an explanation as to how this systemic neglect is compatible with the NHS Constitution. We all have rights to be treated and ignoring a need is far from ethical. I would like the Head of the local trust (infamous due to recent unrelated maternity unit failings) to explain why I have been abandoned!

I think the locum who advised me to watch YouTube in lieu of physiotherapy may rue his words…

This is normal, there is no adequate rehabilitation in the UK, the government said so on the 2nd December 2021. They formed a strategy to solve the problem but as usual nothing so far has happened.

Strangely on youtube you will find cutting edge techniques for rehabilitation, so the locum was telling the truth.

Laughable. I have drafted my letter to the MP and haven’t pulled any punches.

It seem things don't change over time.

Twenty four years ago I sustained a tbi in a rta. I finally got a full diagnosis just over twelve months later.

This diagnosis would open up the full remit of rehabilitation. The rehabilitation I had been needing for twelve months.

There was one little problem. The cut off point for rehab was twelve months post tbi. Not twelve months from diagnosis.

I spent three years going through private medical centres for rehabilitation.

I know I was lucky to be in a position to go private. I hoped over the years things had improved........unfortunately not.

Go for it Skulls

I am utterly disgusted and shocked at the treatment which continues to be handed down to me by the State.

Currently having to try to give a local Council as bloody a nose as possible for refusing to listen and respond to my Representations re. a parking ticket their little man in blue shorts stuck to my car for being in a Blue Badge spot for 10 minutes. He could see clearly the brain injured lady with me has severe mobility issues.

I expect the Tribunal will rule in the Council’s favour but I am going to upset them as much as possible on the way.

Maybe I also hold the tiny hope with the complete downfall of the distruthful Johnson change will start to come.

Best wishes

Michael
