so we all saw the slap.in fairness we all dont live in la la land(well most of us do).if i could i would like to explain my story.i was prob about 19 when i started to lose my hair,patches at first you could get away with,but then?so you go to doctor.so,im talking 40 yrs ago..ive witnessed treatments people with electrodes etc i saw it was there,only a curtain,i only had to sit with lamp for half hour.let me tell you,its not ok for anyone,they never leave walking..they gave me steroids..i was 20 yrs old.they made me crazy,i was working 60 hours plus and all drama.i stopped.my hair grew back...until i was 27..im 60 now and have no body hair at all.the condition is called alopecia areata firstly,like mrs smith,but i have the condition "universalitis".its very hard to explain.when you speak then you need to do more you dont have eyelashes,eyebrows,i did ok in life,i dont complain get tired of explaining.someone chose to bring my condition in front of millions?make fun and humiliate me?i would expect nothing else from my man,unfortunate venue though.support will smith and jada.chris rock shock bang outta order low low

I agree D. Some comedians take too many liberties with other's personal issues. Rock's highly insensitive and crude remarks were crass and unnecessary, quite apart from their coming from ignorance of the facts.

He should try kindness instead of stupid point-scoring from cheap jokes.

In my opinion that whole thing was a desperate attempt to draw more attention to a failing show and industry. It was a ridiculous and cruel display of humanity to try and manipulate people into paying attention to a show that should be totally ignored. Based on my own personal experiences with the media - they do not care at all about the well being of any individual, in a caring way. Those running media content use people for their own gain and then throw them away once they have taken all they could get from them.

I am so sorry you had to go through all that, and live with this conditon. My Mom has alopecia and she went through a bunch of injections that didn't help. She tells me also it is quite painful. It is hard to take. Not just all that. Hair is a big part of identity.

J has spoken publically over the years about her struggle. CR didn't out her.

And, she didn't opt to wear a wig, so she is comfy with her appearance. (Good on her for that.)

Most comedians, especially in the US, are often wildly inappropriate, and they have a history of mean spirited humour, take Don Rickles for instance. It is part of their culture.

The other thing is, if you have seen the clip, WS is laughing at first, then there is a pause. Then it is a long walk over to where the comedian is. To me it was a slow and considered action. This was a very public event and generally people modify themselves more. (If they had been standing close to gether and the instant reaction had happened I could accept it as an outburst more easily.)

I can't help but wonder how much of his decison to strike was based on his status and thinking he could get away wifh it rather than actual uncontrolled outburst. (Especially since when security instructed him to leave later, he didn't go. Who says no to security and gets away with it?)

Celebrities are used to people taking shots at them. There are rehearsals so a whole bunch of people heard the joke before, no one else said 'hey don't cross the line there', and someone said the slap wasn't in the rehearsal. It was not clear to me whether nominees are at the rehearsal or if Ws heard it before.

Even if the joke was in poor taste, there were other ways to handle it.

The bigger problem with the action is that it normalizes violence when someone does something that hurts your feelings.

Where I live random stranger attacks are on the increase and my mobility isn't great, especially when in public spaces. So I find this an unnerving commentary on where our society is going.

Celebrities do have a responsibility as they know they are role models for many, especially in the US, even though I personally don't think they have done anything to justify it.

The other thing is when you have a visible issue you learn pretty fast how mean and judgemental people can be and develop a thick skin out of simple self preservation, and some coping skills. You have to learn to rise above thise aspects of humanity and carry on with grace. Certainky as public figures the couple both would havre a lot of practice doing just that, as we all see how trolls take shots at them on the internet etc all the time. Again, I have to wonder at the arrogance and ego involved with WS and JP that they think they don't have to rise above, and also it is ok to act out this way, when literally millions of others would never get away with it and never dream if it despite how some comment makes them feel.

And when it comes to it, most kindergartners have more self control.

I have thought the awards have been a joke for a long time now, and getting worse all the time. I don't generally watch and find most of their picks lately don't do anything for me.

Personally I won't ever watch any project either of the couple are involved in again. Such gross displays of fame based arrogance and egotism really turn my stomach.

I will also mention for context that in the earlier days I had to use a bit of gear I had ro cobble together when I went out and yes it looked different. When I went in to a pharmacy at a better off neighbourhood I had people say things to me like 'is that supposed to be a halloween costume?' , 'I dont want to see that in here', etc in here', etc When I went to the more working class pharmacy people were asking if they could help me, maybe made a guess about what the gear was for, but no one said a single mean thing. I do understand my own life experience influences my thinking - in that when people perceive themselves as high status they seem to think they can get away with s**t.

It is even worse if it was a publicity ploy.

The only one in all that who seems to be showing any restraint is the comedian, who did not hit back, who regained his composure quite quickly at the time and kept the show rolling along, and who afterward has refrained from making any comment other than he is

processing and has nothing to say, and who also told fans who said 'F*** WS' during his live show 'no no no, none of that'. Here is a man who does seem to have some moral integrity and respect for his influence on others.

Just my 2 cents. I am ok if others don't agree.
