Funny old life

Been an up and down couple of days. Unfortunately I lost my Mum on Friday, she had Vascular dementia and had been ill for a long time. She died peacefully and even though she is now not in discomfort it’s still a shock.

Yesterday I spoke to my surgeon who said she was going to try and get my cranioplasty moved forward. I received an email last night saying they are going to do the op on 1st of March! At least I don’t have too long to worry and panic about it. My only issue is that the funeral will be in 3 or 4 weeks so might be tricky. At least this gives me something to look forward to.

Funny how life goes.

Please accept my condolences Catperson. Losing one's mum, in whatever circumstances is a massive blow but it's been especially rough for you hasn't it. The timings of the funeral and your cranioplasty are unbelievably unfortunate with only a week between them, at best.

Your procedure and aftercare will take around 3 days so (though pretty lethargic) you might be up to showing your face at least if the funeral is 4 weeks off. But I truly hope you'll be able to mark your mum's passing in some other way if unable to attend the service.

All best wishes for your op m'love ....and I do hope the funeral issue will be resolved. Please let us know how everything works out.

Thanks Cat, I spoke to my Dad yesterday and the funeral directors are saying 2nd week of March. He really wants to wait until I am out so we are thinking the 10th of March. Hopefully my recovery will be swift.

Phew - so it's doable if you're well enough ! 🤔 So long as you rest and keep well hydrated once discharged (and avoid temptation to take on anything other than that) it's looking like the timescale might work.

Sending my best wishes m'love for a straightforward cranioplasty, and I really do hope you make it safely to your mum's service.

Be sure to take things gently (...be good to hear how you get on). Fingers crossed...🤞🏻 Cat x

Hello Catperson18, With gently warm hug you are the living , taking into account UK waiting list on anything this is good news for your health and general wellbeing, it's sods law everything happening at once, but I Hope in thinking prior to your mum having vascular dementia she would be wanting you to put YOU first, because that's what good mum's do. My sympathy with you at this sad time and difficult situation you are faced with. Xx

Hi Catperson, sorry for your loss of your mum, I lost my mum to dementia, it’s a cruel and devastating illness that takes away our loved one bit by bit, but when the time comes it’s still hard to let them go. I hope you can make the funeral as that will give you closure, but I’m sure your mum would have wanted the best for you and your recovery. I wish you well with your op and we are always here for support love Alice xx

Thanks Alice, it’s a strange feeling as the last part of her life left her with no quality of life. We have been looking through old pictures and slowly they person she used to be is coming back. Hopefully the op will be the bookend to a challenging 7 months
