Hi, that is a fair distance between Durham and Walkergate, especially if you don't have transport now the nights are drawing in. I understand what you say about the time of life, but 60 is the new 40, or so they say, at least it gives me hope now I approach the golden age.

I'm not sure how they can prevent the problems with Sean pulling the peg feed, apart from preventing him gaining access. I'm not sure how this could be achieved. Can the care team understand if Sean does this because he finds it uncomfortable, or if he is using this to communicate something else, it is rarely just a case of 'because'.....'? I think this would be worth trying to find out.

hi ian, going to try and get something sorted for visits.the problem is their visit times are for 45 mins only because they have various rehab activities during dayso they are 4/5/7pm.this means im going to be travelling for more than 6 hours for just a tiny visit..like i say, durham is not the place you want to be on a nightime, some dodgy folks around.is 60 the new 40?really!i feel 90 some days ha ha!

It's good they have a programme of activities. As you say, it's a lot of time travelling, hope you can find some way of shortening the time, I'll have a thunk, see if I can find a way that will help? I was born at the age of forty, and haven't got any younger lol, so I hope they are right 🙏

Hi m'love. I constantly pulled out drips & lines, so staff bound each of my hands with yards of bandage. My family later recalled how they arrived saying "What the hell ?" on seeing me with two white 'footballs' instead of hands. Apparently I unwound them using my teeth so balls had to get bigger & bigger (have no memory of any of this).

Son & daughter were allowed to remove them during visits so they could massage my hands to relieve the agitation then rebind them on leaving.

The travel distance is appalling. Have you thought of contacting your local MP to ask if they can intervene ? A change might not be possible but it's got to be worth a try. My daughter in law's healthcare was radically improved within days after my son talked with our MP.

Take care D. Love & hugs.... x

They have my man's right leg tied up and both his wrists bound. He is constantly trying to get the leg one off. He hasn't been able to bend it or nothing. I just know he's dying to stretch it and bend it up like a frog like his other leg. That's how he sleeps comfortable on his back. One of the nurses loosened it for me because I told her he just wants to bend it like the other one and as soon as she loosened it he was so much happier. I swear they keep sedating him because when he is waking up he tries to come out of the bed and they just sedate him again. I think they should see how he does without the sedation and all the pain meds too. Just to see where he is at. He is confused and scared when he opens his eyes. That's what the nurse said . Im a mess for reals but trying to keep it together for Justin. I love my man with all my heart.

Maybe have a talk with the consultant ; you're entitled to have have your concerned heard. But though uncomfortable at times most of these measures are priority in keep patients from hurting themselves. I'm told I complained constantly about having to lie flat after my op but it was imperative for my safety.

When a nurse lowered my safety rails but was temporarily distracted by a distressed patient I decided I'd try to stand. I collapsed in a heap triggering an official investigation. And I was frequently found bleeding after pulling out all my lines 'til my hands were bandaged.

And if there are staff shortages it's understandable that one to one supervision of a patient coming off sedation mightn't be possible, but it's hard seeing your loved one struggling. Once home, my family described my discomfort and distress. But I remember absolutely nothing of those days !

Try to talk with your partner's consultant ; it might ease your mind a little knowing they've been made aware of your anxiety, and changes might be possible. Take care m'love.. Cat x
