Brother - sedation & waking up

Hi

My brother suffered an accident on his bike just over 2 weeks ago resulting in a bleed to his brain (right frontal) and has been sedated since.

The hospital have tried on many occasions to reduce the sedation but he gets incredibly agitated and they increase it again for him to rest.

He is now breathing mostly on his own with assistance on exhaling breath.

Its day 16 now and although they are happy with his recovery he still is not responding to commands and getting to agitated for them to fully wake him....anyone been through similar events?

We are incredibly grateful he has got this far its a painful waiting game for baby positive steps in the right direction to then see what state he is in for the future.

Thanks

Hi I haven't but it must be an upsetting and traumatic time.

All I know is that brains take a long time to get better.

job81 sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but dont expect the same brother back.

this one may suffer aggression and mood swings, noise intollerance, inappropriate behaviour in and out doors, there are a couple more.

i have a brain injury, this is my probs, you might find theres some more to go on top with a frontal lobe injury.

all the best to you and your fanmily and welcome to your new family

My partner had a motorbike accident and had a subarachnoid haemorrhage and right frontal lobe damage. When they took away sedation, he was in a coma for about a month to six weeks, but showed little signs, eventually of responding. Now, nearly 7 months and in rehab, he is doing well. He still isn't walking but has just had the peg tube removed, as now on normal food. He's aware his brain isn't doing what it should, but he can have a conversation when not tired, then its confusion. Although he did well breathing for himself in the early days, he had a trachy for a while, but doesn't have it now. So far it has been ups and downs and he still has a long way to go. He does get angry and can swear, but its usually with pain or frustration. I found in the early days, getting in touch with headway and a hats nurse, was a huge help for me to get through. I carried a bag of things to help his stimulation, but nit over doing anything. Headway will help with ideas, but favourite music, putting different textures in his hands, stroking his arm, anything.

I must stress that every brain is different, even if its similar injuries, but that is my story. Sorry for the long story and hugs for you all.
