Crying!

So the last week or so my sister has been crying. Before it was just her eyes looked wet. But now as i talk to her or just walk in the room, once she hears my voice she cries. Her lip even sirt of quivers. She still has yet to open her eyes and it is 4 months. But she is blinking 1 for yes and 2x for no, or if i say blink 2x in a row she will. She is aware more i am thinking. Or am i wrong? She keeps lifting her head like she wants to get up but i guess she feels the trache and settles back down. I just wish i knew whar i can do about her eyes. I believe she sees shadows as one eye is slightly slit and when i put my hand near it she blinks. Any ideas? Anyone open eyes after 4 months?

Hi, I can't say for certain anything with regards to your sister. It sounds like if she can respond appropriately by blinking, and responds when your had move near to her eyes, then she is able to communicate. It might be that her eyes are hypersensitive to light, so keeping them closed is a defence against light. You could try dimming the lights, or shielding her eyes, although the latter would make communication difficult.

Others may have better ideas.

Best wishes

Ian

Thank you! Going to try to find her eyeglasses. I know now my sister is aware. Just now how to get her some help. She always was sensitive to light.

Have the doctors tried any medications to assist in waking her up? There’s amantadine and midozolam, both have been used to treat minimally conscious state. Here’s a case report of it waking up a man in Italy:

No. I have not even spoken to neurology the 4 months she was in hospital. I asked the drs and they know nothing about it. Now she is in the NH and i am not sure if they will try it. I doubt they will but neurology is coming this week and i will ask. I am hoping to wean her from vent then try to get her in some kind of brain rehab. It is terrible the neglect brain patients get. Thank you i will forward info to the drs. Be well!
