Nerve damage due to blood draw in wrist

Hello I have a question about a visit to the A&E after chest pains and difficulty breathing by ambulance. After being seen by the attending emergency room doctor, she drew blood from my wrist , just below the thumb . The doctor tried to find my vein deep inside the side of my wrist , first time with no luck and me screaming in intense pain , a sort of electric shock! She told me that she needed this for checking to see if I had had a heart attack, ( a certain blood from this deeper vein ?) . Well the second time she tried I again screamed in severe pain and my Carer told her to stop and get someone who could preform this test . This was two years now and my wrist and thumb have lost almost 80% of my use and the pain has never left . Can Anyone guide me in any medical procedures to rectify this issue 🙏. Have you had this looked at, have you told your GP? I had multiple nerve damage after my accident and I ended up having nerve conduction tests to locate the areas of damage then MRi scans to look at the damaged areas. Had one op so far with an18month physio routine before they look again.

You should also make an official complaint to your health authority, if you have lost 80% of wrist function they have basically caused a disability. It should be brought out and discussed so they can update their procedures and you should be compensated for this also.

I haven’t had it looked at yet , but once I can ( Covid-19- can’t get to see a doctor in person ) Thank you for sharing with me .

Oh that’s just terrible. this blood test is very painful . The blood test is to check your blood gas’s. It is the most painful place to take bloods but is the correct area to be used

This sounds like there was some error in removing and finding the site

Gp needs to be informed. Take someone with you

Thank you for taking your time to share this with me , I will be getting a doctor to help as soon as possible ( COVID-19 has prevented me from seeing a doctor face to face )

I can tell you from experience that's nothing to fool with! I don't know if you can find help, but you should definitely look into it.

While in ICU after the auto accident that caused his TBI, my son had the same vein with an IV in it. The IV somehow became kinked in the vein, but the staff elected to leave it in. They said it was vital to reading his blood gas levels. - - - Four days later they finally took it out after his hand turned purple and swelled up!!

We were told there was nothing they could do about it and just had to watch his thumb and index finger shrivel up and turn black with gangrene. They finally amputated those two fingers from his right hand. Thanks a lot ICU!!!!

And yes we have talked to the lawyers. They have been unable to "prove" any kind of neglect. So very sad. : (
