Hi I suffered a stroke due to stress of caring for an aged husband, who has since sadly died and working full time. It caused brain damage affecting my vision and short term memory processes, so I can't drive to get to work and meet friends, so I'm suddenly alone and finding it very difficult

Lonely lady due to brain damage
Morning and welcome... friendly bunch of folks here with a range of reasons for joining in - but most of all some folks to talk to who generally understand the complexities of BI. .....
Hope the sun is shining where you are and you find some nice things to do this w/e.
I'm just cleaning the house a bit since youngest just left for Uni and then off to have massage
Have you tried the stroke ass'n and headway for local groups ?
K
PS - you mentioned not being able to drive to get to work - access to work paid for my taxis for a few months - worth a go ? Also Remploy were very useful .... x
Hi moo just love that name, wonder what it stands for. Life with a health issue can be very lonely, as the present world doesn't really cater for problems. I've just been out with my dog for a short walk which can be difficult with a visual impairment as he's small and easily lost
My husband suffered from deteriorating health for two to three years. It was a nasty shock when he
Finally died after all the care her been given.
Hi again - glad you got out and doggie must be a bit of company and reason to get out at least ...
Moo was my last cat's name - unfortunately she died just before I became ill ( in October last year ) - some say it was meant to be that way - because I would definitely not have coped with her illness as well as mine .....
Do try Remploy if you are considering job options. thankfully I found them in time to talk to my current employers and have been doing a phased return since January - started on 9 hrs/ week - now up to 29 hrs.

Hello J. You're so welcome. Many of us here have become more isolated since our brain injuries so this forum is a lifeline for those of us with absent friends, and/or difficulty getting out & about.
My sympathies for the loss of your husband and your resulting stroke ; life can be rough can't it. How long have you been coping with these difficulties ?
Nice photo BTW.....................I see such kindness in your face. xx
Hi and welcome
You have had a rough time. Yes, it is lonely, misunderstood, because, mainly we look okay, but we not inside, and you have to live with to understand.
Perhaps contact your local Headway and see if there is a local support group, and we are always here to chat. I sustained a TBI four years ago, and suffer with a number of symptoms, fatigue is my biggest barrier.
Take care x
Hi. "Welcome" I'm so sorry for you, a Stroke can make things very difficult at any time.
As others on this site have mentioned if you are able too contact your local Headway.

Hello and welcome,
So sorry to hear about the loss of your husband and your stroke.
I love walking with my dog too : ) I am lucky that my vision is okay but have some mild mobility/ cognitive problems.
Just wondering if a bright coloured collar or even a luminous jacket ( if pooch will accept wearing it ! ) would help to help track him on walks ?
Many people on here seem to have short term memory problems too, ( myself included ) with various methods of writing down/ recording information to refer to.
Good to meet you,
Kind regards, Angela x
Hi,
Sorry to hear about your sad loss and the devastation of you're stroke.
I have no personal experience of stroke but I am absolutely certain you will quickly get support from others here that have. Headway themselve have a great helpline but if you have any speech difficulties then their e-mail service is great too (personal experience on that one).
Come on in the waters warm and company lovely.
Any chance Jspringa partly refers to a spinger spaniel? If so I guess a bit of a hand full. We had a springer border collie cross from 7 months to 16 years and she was a total nutter. We now have 2 labradors, one black (Nacho - named by re-homing centre) and a yellow (Honey - named by us when we got her as a 3 month pup but not ALWAYS as sweet as her name).
Welcome.
