Beginning to wonder if this is the right place for me.

Hi,

Wondering as you all seem to have had so much more damage done to yourselves/love ones than I did.

I'm up and about and am currently on very few painkillers. Still not back at work nearly 4 weeks after injury, but don't know when this will happen, other half hopes it's after this note runs out on Friday when I see my gp again, but I just don't feel ready.

Do as you can see thats why I'm not sure if I'm in the right place.

Xx

Hi again Rosebud. The cause of brain injury doesn't necessarily reflect the damage or after effects so, if you feel you need support, then you've as much reason as anyone else for being here.

Apart from partners just wanting their other halves to be 'better' they're not usually clued up on brain injury and how a simple bang on the head can cause lasting issues, especially fatigue and confusion.

If you're not ready for a return to work tell your GP and, if you're anxious about that, maybe download a Headway factsheet to back you up. Good luck m'dear x

I think it is worth pointing out that people are on journeys throughout the very wide spectrum of 'brain injury' and at varying points on that journey too. From time to time, particular issues arise that can make some feel they do not 'belong' here, simply because we may be fortunate enough not to have been affected to the extent others have, or have been lucky in not experiencing some of the psychological and social difficulties.

Your experience may be different to some, but no less deserving of compassion, concern and thoughtful and helpful comment. The experiences of others may put what you are confronting into perspective, but that does not mean they are not important to you, or any less 'valid',

I feel sure none of those contributing would want you to feel anything less than welcome, or have you feeling you cannot raise your concerns in an environment devoted to brain injury at all levels.

Regards

One of the things that is often said "If you have seen a brain injury, you have only ever seen one brain injury" meaning that all brain injures are very different. Hence each experience is different which makes it really useful for everybody.

Sometimes the less dramatic stories are the really helpful ones. Especially the ones where someone has "bumped their head" and feels "off" and they are worried it may be something serious but it can resolve after a period of rest.

Well worth hanging around

Yep, you're in the right place as we've all been there, just to varying degrees really. There is no right or wrong where a brain injury is concerned and likewise, no two people feel alike also. Hang around, nobody here will mind at all!

Thanks all. I think part of it is people keep referring to my injury as a head injury rather than a brain injury. And if my other half says it was just a bang to the head and nothing to do with the brain 1 more time ill go mad. Xx

Hi Rosebud40. I agree with the others here. This forum is for anyone who feels the need for some support after a head injury. I'm not your typical member here either. I have a long-term condition that is not connected to any kind of accident. I've had it since birth but only became aware of it at 14. I do feel like a bit of an outsider here at times so know what you mean. But I have learnt so much from other members and feel much more knowledgeable about the effects of my condition. Please do stick with us if you think we can be of any help to you.

Thanks all. I think my biggest concern at the moment is going back to work. I'm a domiciliary carer so my work is quite physical, lots of bending and stretching and supporting people's weight. I just don't know if I can do that. Before my injury I'd done 2 well over 40 hour weeks. I don't think I can go back to that. Other half is meaning to make me feel guilty, but ever time he mentions that I've now had nearly a month off I feel really guilty, especially as I was the only one working and we had plans to do a lot to the house.

Sorry for the moan. Xx

Rosebud.... have you seen the post(from Tissue1) about PCS ? On BBCi its about 10 min in on Woman's Hour (after an item on abortion). Only a short discussion but highlights the possible effects of a bang to the head. x

Hi Cat,

Thanks for the tip. I listened to it last night. It was very informative and a lot of what they said rang so true.
