I have an assessment for my blue badge coming up I was wondering if anyone had any advice. Please
Blue badge: I have an assessment for my blue badge... - Headway
Blue badge
Dear Turkey62,
First of all...Were you born in 1962? If so, So was I!
Secondly, as regards your Blue Badge Application, whilst I'm NOT- in any way- advocating lying, or telling an untruth, just make sure that you Present as you would on The Worst Day Possible. You know the Days...…. You take half an hour to even 'Get Up', another half to wash, another half to Poo....The Coffee gets spilt on the floor, the cereal goes down your trousers/skirt (I don't know if you are a Boy, or Girl.) You stub your toe on the sideboard, you break the glass that held your Medication- which cuts your finger.....
Secondly- Don't 'Bounce' into the Interview, take your time. If 'They' want to Asses, your walking, again take it easy- maybe stopping, for a 'breather' half way, especially if you 'Wobble'. Perhaps ask for a 'Hand Up' afterwards?
As I said DON'T lie, don't exactly 'exaggerate' either, just act as you often HAVE To- on a Bad Day. Don't forget to Stress, your absolute NEED, for a Blue Badge- how Hard it is to walk ANY Distance....
I hope that this has been, at least, some help, to you, Turkey62 (what an unusual 'Name'). All that remains is for me- indeed us All- to wish you 'Luck'. Please can you let us know, how you, Get On?
Warmest Wishes
AndrewT
Good luck, I have a blue badge but seldom use it because people cannot see my disability. I drive a very expensive vehicle and people seem to think that disabled people should not drive super cars
Hi,
I applied for a blue badge for my wife over Xmas. We don't have PIP award yet so there were many more questions to answer and each answer had to be justified with a paragraph and cross referenced to evidence (neuro phycologist reports, OT reports, ABI assesment and ABI diagnosis letters). It took a long time to complete (10 to 15 hours) online but a couple of days later I had a confirmation email from the local council and also asking for payment via the .GOV website. After payment received, I had an email to say the badge was in the post and it should be arriving hopefully any day now.
I understand the assessments can be different depending where you live due to local councils awarding the badge. I had believed the assessments were all online, are you attending somewhere for a physical assesment or maybe a face to face assesment?
Regards
Thanks, I have to go for an assessment that's all iv been told. Im getting fed up with having assessments for different things and I can't get across to people how bad I can actually feel and unable to do things. I usually am looking ok and having a good moment if you know what I mean, when I go for these.
Hi Turkey, I understand your frustration, This is the first time I have claimed PIP for my wife, came through yesterday actually after 6months of waiting and now I find I have to claim universal credit for us so have to complete a load more questions about "how your disability affects you" just as I did for the PIP!... Different topic sorry, just feels like a lot of work to justify the fact your less able than others so I understand how anyone can become fed up with forms and assessments.
My only other advice would be to take an occupational therapist if you have one? Take copies of any assessments or PIP paperwork if you have it and consider phoning headway for their free advice and guidence.
Regards
Hi, just a suggestion for you all - if you don't look disabled, people often assume you shouldn't be in a disabled space. From Amazon you can get a car window sticker that says 'not all disabilities are visible'. I had one for my husband who always looked so healthy and if anyone made a comment, I just pointed to the notice.
I have never heard of a blue badge assessment for a blue badge. I know DVLC have an assessment to see if you are fit to drive or if you need addaptions, Fit for Work, generally assess your overall health and mobility, in fact the report from this contradicted the PIP assessment that was a pure fantasy of imagination.
The blue badge scheme is operated by your council, usually if you get the higher rate mobility PIP, you should automatically qualify for the blue badge scheme. Council may issue a badge if you don't get PIP, if your GP and specialist give grounds.
I agree fully with Andrew T, anything to do with disabilities is based on your worst days. Be truthful, it is easier to remember the truth. Don't try to be nice about how things effect your daily living, use all the terms that grate on any genuine disabled person, don't try to think of what you would like to hear, the assessors only understand the blunt fact's.
I'm not sure if this helps, but I wish you luck, and look forward to hearing how it goes.
They gave me mine for life as an oldun guess they didn't hold out much hope lol ..A joke on my part but !!, seriously was given up on. OT's I played up so I was told as had hydrocephalus and slept a lot and cried also but as Andrew says be you but worse xxx Good luck xxxx
Thanks everyone for the comments. I was awarded my blue badge I'm waiting for it to arrive.
