Methylene Blue the magic bullet?

Okay, I work in the pharma industry so I'm shocked I'm making this post. But I follow the guy in the video, Chase Hughes and I have so much respect for him. He is one of the most intelligent people that I follow on youtube. But he was struck down by a brain condition, I can relate to him in so many ways. Anyway, he is highly qualified and he went off to research himself a cure, and he found one. And its one that might help all of us. To me the video is a bit hippy love and peace, but the core message of the Methylene Blue and Red Light Therapy really interests me.

So my questions is, has anyone here had experiance with Methylene Blue?

Here is the video youtube.com/watch?v=W4tXqcX...

No replies. So I presume like me you'd never heard of this. Can I suggest people have a poke around on the evidence for this. Methylene Blue is a dye :o It has no patient so pharma apparently are not interested in using it. BUT if you read the research, there is a huge amount of it, there is a lot of evidence that it can help many conditions, including brain injury and dementia etc. You will be thinking, well if its that great why have we never heard of it. Well, have a read up on it. Its the first time in 25 years of cognitive decline that I've seen something that 'might' give me hope to get my functioning back.

Hi,

I only found this so far..

Methylene blue may contribute to serotonin syndrome if combined with other serotonergic drugs such as SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs, and TCAs due to the MAOI activity that methylene blue has. Serotonin syndrome increases sympathetic and neuromuscular activity; therefore, symptoms include diaphoresis, clonus, and tremors. In adults, methylene blue can cause central nervous system-related symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, and headaches.

Also can't find anything specific on its use for TBI so if you have some links please feel free to share.

I only found out about this yesterday so still doing my research. But yes there certainly are many warnings about it as well. This seems to give a more balanced view (see below) and its not as positive as I'd hoped. However, if you read the comments (which I know isn't science) they are overwhelmingly positive. Also, in the video he didn't look at Meth Blue combined with Red Light Therapy and other supplements. I've written a list of my current treatment choices, which is this is nothing :) So I'm certainly going to try it. I'm trying to find a practitioner I can find some in the UK but I'm currently working Budapest, which doesn't seem to have any.

It's all a bit in the dodgy realm of 'influencers' for my tastes.

No real clinical evidence to suggest that this is either a safe or beneficial intervention.

Thats how I'd feel if I didn't know how professional Chase Hughes is. He doesn't have a horse in the race, other than the condition he developed 9 months ago. Other than that he's a behavioural expert. And he's a really good one, I'd recommend The Behaviour Panel, if you're interested in true crime, or psychology.

I tried methylene glue earlier this year after a mild TBI and suffering from fatigue, cognitive and memory issues as well as vestibular issues.

It gave me a boost of energy for a few hours, I didn’t try long terms and only when I wanted to do something but knew it would be hard without anything to help.

My consultant wasn’t happy and sent me to A&E for bloods, I can’t remember the special blood test I needed but they had to go via the wrist. They warned it was highly toxic and could cause positioning, although I made sure I took a small dose as in the medical journals.

I don’t think it’s been tested for human consumption, my bottle came with a research only warning so I wouldn’t advise. I let the hospital keep it after the checks came back okay.

I found it by checking shat professional fighters were using in America for concussion.

If you google methylene blue and traumatic brain injury you will see some articles.

Yes for sure there are unknowns here without it being officially approved. As I work in Pharma and I'm obsessively evidance based, this is a new line of thinking for me. Maybe I'm being naïve, but there really isn't an alternative at the moment.

yeah, I got desperate and tried it. Then maybe panicked when I had to get bloods done etc

Noobru advantage helped me a little, not huge changed but every little helps. I’m currently trying their new Sprint drink but it does have caffeine in

Thank you for your contribution to the forum. The complex nature of brain injury and difficulty identifying effective treatments invites many different theories on alternative therapies. However even those with seemingly large amounts of content supporting their use should be treated with caution - it can be very difficult to separate fact from hype.

Ultimately, at Headway we strongly advise people to discuss all new treatments with their doctor as interactions with existing medications and potentially severe side effects can occur.

Please do not hesitate to contact our helpline on 0808 800 2244 or helpline@headway.org.uk if you would like to discuss the impact of brain injury, and potential rehab or treatment options.

In defence of supplements, almost all of them have been unproven until recent years. We now have such good diagnostic that some supplements are becoming evidence based. In fact even since yesterday I've made a discovery that my restless leg which I've had maybe all my life, seems to be due to low salt. My blood tests doesn't seem to show this, but a change of diet has already helped. But its only been one day. I'm shocked something so simple might have caused something that causes me so many problems.
