Devastating stroke to my sons brain stem and the 3 year struggle to regain awareness and his tragic death

My son, Jared was born on June 21, 1989. He was a healthy, sweet child. He had many friends and was a very kind and thoughtful person. On July 11, 2001, at age 12, Jared was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. He had a successful surgery to remove part of the tumor and the remaining tumor was monitored by MRI every 6 months. On March 16, 2015 he needed a second brain surgery. Again everything appeared successful. There was a visit 6 weeks after the surgery. This was the last time Jared spent time with his family.

Jared suffered a massive stroke to his brain stem on April 15, 2015. At the time of the stroke, Jared was a 25 year old doctoral student of Psychology in Chicago. The stroke was caused by an accumulation of fluid in the brain, a condition called hydrocephalus. He never regained awareness and was in a vegetative state for 3 years until his death on February 12, 2018. We tried unsuccessfully to bring Jared back and we are devastated by the three year journey and the loss of our son. Our suffering never ends.

Hello my lovely,

I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful young son. Some individuals have such a struggle for life and others experience terrible loss such as yourselves. As a nurse I help hundreds of families that loose wonderful, amazing, young people just like your son. I know that nothing I can say will help your pain or your need for it all to be a terrible nightmare. My heart honestly is with you and your family and adorable son. You will be in my thoughts.

I sincerely wish you a whole lot of peace.
