Hi, i suffered a severe fall from a horse 3 years ago when i was 15 years old. My horse attempted to jump and landed through the middle of a wooden fence and I landed head first into the ground from a height of 13ft while it was galloping and did not put my hands out to save myself. I was unconscious for over 30min alone until i woke up myself and walked to find help, I still cant remember the whole of that week. I suffered from a TBI which has left me with fatigue and problems with attention-span, concentration, word-finding, irritability and short-term memory.
Hope there is someone who can relate with me on this subject.

Thank you, I have tried to not let it impact upon my dreams and I have now got into doing nursing at university so I am trying to pull myself through the course so hopefully I can go on to help people who are struggling with brain injuries like myself and others on this page.
is everyone aware of your brain injury? i had a friend who was dyslexic and she was given a pc by her local council to help with her essays.
i had a friend who was doing a nurses degree and she spent most of her time not in the classroom but either in the community or in a home for the elderly.
all of those. but then again im a lot older than you so i can put it down to age ha ha ha.
all joking aside aside though, looking for words, you can see them, there on the tip of your tongue but can you say them ..............this used to cause me frustration but now my wife and my friends play a word game with me until i can spit the damn thing out.
as far as attention and concentration, i set out 5-6 tasks, eg drawing, carry on wit a watercolour, sort my bookshelves out etc and carry on like that hoping ill finish one task before the day is out. im reading a book on the 1st world war, but im still reading the first few pages because ive forgotten what ive read, i started reading it 7 yrs ago, doing well huh?
Yeah I have the problem of not being able to say the words I want to either, this is due to the fall impacting upon a childhood stammer that I had and has increased it. So I understand your frustration. I set out tasks into an app on my phone so it splits the day up into chunks with certain times which helps me to remember what I have to do and also motivates me to get them done.
Hi, my daughter is 22 and has an acquired brain injury caused by a cardiac arrest 2 years ago. You are describing her symptoms too. Have you been to a Headway branch? We are finally going to the one in Derby, I think they can provide some support there.
Perhaps needless to say brain exercise is as important as physical exercise. I had a heavy TBI 5yrs ago when I was 47, and lost 90% of my dictionary. To get most of it back I wrote a book over 18 mths and I have played Lumosity on my iPad or phone every day for the last 3yrs. I started a new Insurance Broker business 18 moths ago and got my driving licence back at the same time👍🏻 I recommend you read The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, and keep it by your bed to re-read sections of it when you are feeling negative. You are ultimately what you think. Best wishes x
That’s awesome and your story deserves to be told. If you put mind to it you can overcome any exam. The fact that you felt comfortable to embark on course tells me you felt that you control of your destiny. Don’t let worry and fear detract from your studies. Brain injury affects different folk in different ways so too the recuperation process.
Hi there! I really feel for you after reading your message, I’m so sorry you are experiencing effects. I know how hard things can be. So on Jan 14th I fell down 12 stairs at home. This caused a massive Tbilisi. I broke the base and right side of my skull, had a subarachnoid haemorrhage and three blood clots at the front of my brain. My family were told numerous times I would die, then that they needed to find me a care home as my disabilities would be extensive. I have been very lucky, I have no effects and completely back to the person I was. My heart goes out to you and I really hope you get the answer that helps.
