Help at last

After nearly 11 long years my husband is getting the much needed help he should have been getting years ago.

After an near breakdown by me not him🙈 I had enough trying to fix what situations he got us into financially as he is so gullible - believes anyone’s story on the phone or online giving personal/bank details out. Rages he goes into the list is endless but now after going to the doctor as I was at end of my tether with him(had to walk out of door as I was close to thumping him 😩)

My Dr referred him to brain injury specialist unit which was set up over 5 years ago. I knew nothing about this team. Anyway he has been assigned a psychologist a physiotherapist and occupational therapist and a speech therapist who are all going to be working with him.

Whoop can’t believe it so many years of in jobs out jobs as saying things or doing things he shouldn’t. Dr signed him off work for months at a time as he now most definitely can not hold a job down. Just been awarded ESA for now and awaiting PIP decision(hold breath) third time lucky maybe 🤔

Already had visits from occupational therapist, physiotherapist and yesterday Psychologist.

All positive so far theyvare going to start getting him out for walks try lift his mood as very low at the moment but he has agreed to follow their advice. Hopefully he will...

Onwards and upwards 🤞

Will keep you posted re PIP

Gosh what a time you have had . I’m so glad things are on the move , taken too long though . I hope you get pip and every other benefit you are entitled to. He can’t be happy either so hope your life and his is on the UP. 🙏🤗🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Absolutely he has had a very tough time, he lovec his job, was a paramedic for many years so very sad but onwards and upwards now

🤞

As regards the money, can you not change the account and pin numbers and then open another account that he can access with a limited amount in it. I got my husband a 'credit' card that is prepaid, so he thinks he has the means to pay for things and keeps his independence but in actual fact I only load it with a small amount of money. If he loses it or gives the number to anyone, we will only have a small loss.

Thank you cat3

He was failed big time by the people he dedicated his life to the NHS but no looking back now just forward. Been hard for us all as a family but more do Mark as the job he loved snatched away from him . Anyhow we've got through it and still pushing on. Things can only get better - so the song goes lol 😆 x

Took me a few years to get help as well !!

The doctors told me to go back to work and wondered why I struggled.

Then taking a closer look, they said oh you had a brain injury lol

Tried returning to part time work three times now in ten years and failed every time as it’s to much for me.

Now I am on ESA and PIP (brain injury team helped with form filling )

As they don’t think I will be working again, I am going to appeal there decision for the PIP support group.

Wish you all the best.

Oh sounds familiar my husband also back to work far too soon. In and out of work because of him saying/doing things he shouldn’t but couldn’t remember what he had fine or said when challenged by employers😬 yes that’s because he’s got a brain injury and doesn’t know he’s doing anything inappropriate.

I hope you get decision in your favour ridiculous you have to be put through rigmarole!

My husband won’t be back working now so fingers crossed he gets pip and his occupational therapist from brain injury team will go with him to assessment.

Good luck for the future 🍀

Sounds like ur both finally getting what u should have from the start-the NHS are always waiting for things to get as far as they can to do anuything!

Hope it works.

As for PIP i got it second time without even turning up for tribunal,yr after no points at all!

Yes been a long time coming and for a man who gave so much to of his life working for the NHS gets failed miserably.

PIP process is a disgrace 😡 needs to be changed - should be a letter from doctor who knows you and how brain injury or any health issue/ disability affects you. Apparently will be exactly that in Scotland come 2020 🤔.

Waiting patiently on decision 🤞x

NHS worker aswell-that's discusting!

I just shout at PIP,tell them to hurry up,stop wasting time. Cos more they wind me up,the more likely i too ill for tribunals, but i don't let go anymore. I do forms by myself aswell-cos how i fill them in,i backup what's wrong with moods! LOL

PIP do not have any people from a neuro background in tests-cos they say they can't get any,so they admit it's all about MH & some physical!

Tho known someone who can't walk & talk, had seizure wet himself when went with both his carers, still got zero points in medical. They hate fighters-i will hospitalise myself to get what i should get. Making me wait doesn't bother me anymore!

Yes he was in the ambulance service started as a cadet when he was 16 then went on to be s paramedic. Lived for his work so hard for him to know he can’t do this anymore.. lost his paramedic license due to his cognitive issues.

Pip 😡😡 my husband voted 0 too then got up to 6 after appeal disgusting!

They said they could sympathise with us as agreed he had cognitive issues but he didn’t fit criteria ehh get that sorted then to for survivors of brain injury 🙄 ridiculous!

Good for you keep shouting and fighting. I certainly won’t be giving up until he get what he flipping well deserves.
