Getting back my independence

Missindependent77 profile image

Hi everyone I've been lucky enough to be offered a council property the only issue I have is I don't have any furniture/white goods or much more than clothes. Is there any help for brain injury survivors? I have no family and only a few friends

Hi there.

Not sure if where you are and if things have altered but you may be eligible through social services for a grant to start you off with basics.

Contact Headway for help or if you have a social worker try them.

Good luck

Pax

Thank you for your reply, I'm in West Yorkshire. I will make contact and see what's available. Thanks again

Hi Miss I,

There may be charities that offer grants. The website turn2us.org.uk has a grant finder where you can type in your postcode to see what’s available in your area. Also search on disability-grants.org

Furniture recycling centres sometimes offer second-hand white goods and many give discounts to people on benefits.

There’s free cycle and similar sites but I suppose there is some risk with electrical items not being safe. I’ve no real experience of sites like this myself.

Any friends or family members or people they know who have things they’d like to donate?

Great news about the new home. It’ll take time to acquire and make it your own but you’ve crossed the first hurdle.

Best wishes,

Lazuli

ask the council if they provide grants to help you with furniture and white goods or they may put you in touch with charities who might help.
