Hello everyone out there. For the first time ever I'm writing to you whilst not in a downtrodden and miserable way. Thank goodness for that I hear you say!
Right. It's been 16 years since my TBI and I'm finally feeling like I could get a job. As my counsellor suggests, a part time position is where I'd start.
The thing is I've made profiles on Indeed, Totaljobs and CV library. I've also done a few of those email alerts for jobs I'd be interested in maybe applying for.
But my counsellor who lives in Brighton, say that in her area there's a group that talk about TBI survivors who are looking for jobs and pointing them in the right direction. Sounds perfect, the only problem being that I live in Glasgow.
Does anyone have any advice about this at all? If I've missed anything then I'd love to play catch up on it!?
Hi Lucy, have you contacted Headway for support as they might be able to signpost you to a head injury charity that will support survivors in the work place? Even the organisation in Brighton might be able to signpost you? I live in Northern Ireland so unfortunately don't know anywhere in your area. Here we have a charity that supports survivors with finding jobs, volunteering and reskilling. I've reached out to them and at the minute they have been supporting me with just getting out and about again.
Hi BinaryBiscuitSorry to but in but could I ask the name of the charity as I'm also in Northern Ireland and just finalising getting paid off from my job as I'm no longer able to continue. It's a very physical job x
Hi Mary, I am being supported through the Cedar Foundation cedar-foundation.org/traini... It was the Rehabilitation team that connected me with Cedar x
Thank you so much. I must check them out. I'm 17 months post TBI so still trying ro get used to fact that I can no longer do same things as I could before.Totally devastated about job but unfortunately working in a school busy kitchen is no longer safe x
Downtrodden? Miserable? Surely you speak in jest Saville75. I recommend going back to work but take it slowly and yes, only part time at first. I ran back to work (2000) after mine (1999) and let's just say it was one of my finest examples of the 'worst fucking thing ever to do in the situation' that I can think of off the top of my head. But you're wiser than me and have given yourself a great deal more preparation time than I did. I think also, having spoken with you a few times before, that you would be good at this kind of role and would be able to give lots of people the right ideas regarding the next step forward. Keep me posted on how it goes just don't over do it until you know what you can handle.
