No pain Headaches
Ive been plagued with these since suffering my ABI. One neurologist suggested they were migrainous in origin. No suggestion as to how to deal with them but at least once a month it would wipe out 3/4 days.
Paracetamol wouldnt touch them and my GP didnt like me taking Ibuprofen.
However when i insisted on a referral back to the consultant at my rehab unit, where they had looked puzzled in and he past he said “ i think i know how we can fix that” and he prescribed Pregabalin and guess what no more pressure headaches!! 🎈🎉
And he even said if that doesnt work there are other things we can try.
So, you need a referral back to a neurologist, and hopefully youll get that bit of your life back xxx

Do you have any physical sensations connected to your head?
Just awkwardly winking at times, avoided narrowly various fights in a bar...Otherwise will tend to be Left side "bumping" into things, door frames, walls..
OK I was thinking about pressure around your forehead, like a elastic band, I experienced this and it was due to stress.
Oh, yes, hidden pressure points... When my nail digs in.. Well it might feel like what a dog feels when scratching it back and that leg goes kick start style.. Weird Lovely release. Do get the lightning fast sharp sensations, sometimes when caught in any various light types.
I wonder whether these are mini-seizures Ghost, in which case the Pregabalin suggested by Janet might be worth asking your GP about.
It's a versatile drug with minimal side effects used for a variety of conditions including seizures.
Hope you get this sorted ; randomly winking at people could prove a risky business !! 👀 x
I get 'funny' headaches.... Hard to explain, feels like my hair being pulled, but from the inside! Sometimes so powerful, I have to sit down a while... I also get a metalic smell when it's front left and a wierd curry like smell too, sometimes I smell burning.
As a lifelong migraineur I have occasionally in recent years had migraine without the headache - I get the aura and so can't see properly for about half an hour, but then the thumping headache (thankfully?) fails to materialise. I am, however, still left with a sensitivity to light, sound and smell, feel totally exhausted and rather weak and sick, and suffer these symptoms as per a migraine with headache for anything up to 48 hours. It is very wierd, as if the brain forgot one item in the recipe...
These headaches are not completely normal for me but are normal emough ( and common enough in the migraine community) for me not to worry. Any non-aura neurological dissociation such as you describe and I think I would be straight back to the docs to make sure. Kirkw makes a good call there. Better to be safe...
Love the 'beer-flu' epithet btw.
I get pressure in my head and sometimes feels like I'm wearing an iron mask, I also get very tired when feeling like this. I tend to find these days it's usually when I've been very mentally active or subjected to a lot of noise. My bi was a stroke and this pressure/tiredness is referred to as stroke fatigue. X
Hi there,
I do apparently! I have numbness/pins needles/heat in one area of my brain that took a big hit in the accident.
When it builds up (usually over few weeks) I start to get uncoordinated and have more obvious memory /processing /word finding difficulties, start having small tremors then eventually I almost stop functioning completely before a bout of intense tremors down whole right side of body.
Once that has happened the rest clears and I'm just wiped out for 1-2 weeks, and the cycle starts again.
I was tested for Epilepsy as i was having blanks too initially (4 yrs ago) and got the all clear then they diagnosed it as pain free migraines.
Until about a year ago when they changed slightly and brought crippling pain with them too!
I had been having two other types of migraine during this period too, normal pressure ones and shooting arrow neuro ones, but they were largely independent of the other pattern.
However the fact that the no pain symptoms of 3 years changed into pain in year 4 suggests that the migraine diagnosis is correct.
And at the moment it's destroying my life!
It seems to run in roughly 2-3 month cycles of 3 weeks symptom build up, 1crippling week, 2 weeks recovery, up to 6 weeks clear....and repeat.
When I say clear, I still have my "new normal" level of fatigue, memory/word problems, issues with conflicting noises/bright lights, exhaustion when around people too long, neck/shoulder/back/leg pain etc.
5 yrs on still really struggling to build any sort of life for myself.
But still trying! Just need to find that right path...surely soon now!
Spring makes you feel lighter though doesn't it?
X
Thank you for useful information. Especially for the pain free migraine word. Normal folk think I'm talking monkey rubbish when I state "I must of had a pain free headache for several days.. Indicator :dropping things, forgetful more>than usual.
I suffer migraines but don't get any pain. Flashing lights in my view, & floating shapes, needless to say it was worrying at first as I was unsure if I was having some kind of seizure but no, just migraines without the headache, when it starts I know I must restry. Feels like I spend most my life resting these days since my BI, what with painless migraines, mental fatigue, arthritis, think I'm loosing my mo-jo 😲
Forgot about weary Fatigue after or during these micro storms in my head.. Even had to say to my new (ex) girlfriend.. Whilst on a train " I have to have Dark time snooze NOW.! Fortunately totally understanding of me. Leaning on her in packed train..Sometimes I smell static electricity rarely. Light sensitive + won't bother with phone replies.
I have a Headache Diary to try atleast have an vague effort of History.
