I'm a carer and what

Hey guys haven't been around much sorry but for those that don't know my past I've had multiple BI'S over the years from being pushed down the stairs and going through a rear windscreen of a car as a child which resulted in fractured skull on both occasions to being attacked as a teenager and then being hit by a car in march 2009 in Lompoc California which I had a brain bleed and went into cardiac arrest for four minutes, then march 2010 being attacked in my own home resulting in the latest BI I am a carer for my lass and she is my unofficial carer, she had to come off the forum because she had been attacked by someone saying carers shouldn't post on here but they go through hell I'm going to the brain injury unit in Derby to get help understanding and managing my BI I know more than I did before and if anyone wants to attack me for posting I'm a carer come at me but be prepared, I will fight both corners because both carers and BI's lives and shared experience matter, because we are here to help each other we are a family, and for those out to attack on purpose or looking to cause trouble all I have to say is careful what you wish for

Mac, you are very welcome. There will be a reluctance after what turned out to be an ugly and unfortunate situation yesterday, which should not continue as it has been put to bed now.

All members are welcome as we know how important this forum is.

Hi mac39

Thank you being part of the community and sharing your feelings about the vital role carers play.

However, as Kirk5w7 said, it is important we do not continue the discussions on the recent disagreements that have disrupted the forum of late.

You are entirely correct in saying 'carers and BI's lives and shared experience matter, because we are here to help each other we are a family'.

I hope we all can heed that message and move forward together.

To that end, we think it would counterproductive to continue the debate in a new thread, so please let's now move on together.

With thanks,

Headway

Sorry to hear your multiple BIs. Both careers and people with BI go through different things both are tough. I would say my BI has effected my mum more than me. I was in a bad car accident and all I remember is driving on motorway then waking up in hospital, finding out my dog had died and having physio. Even when still in hospital I said I would drive again as I didn't remember the accident and wanted to get on with life. My mum didn't want me to drive again and is still worried that it may happen again tho does want me driving for convenience. Looking back I can see her worry as I think when I first had accident there was some uncertainty about if I'd survive. I had brain scan to check if there was brain activity so pretty much seeing if I could be saved and helped. On top of that she had upset of my dog dying and having to tell me when or if I came round. She said also that when my nan (my mums mum) first saw me her legs buckled so they had to help her up.

I go to a group that helps people with BI now and realise my fast recovery is very rare. The man who set it up has been through hell. Having a relationship break down. His mind was effected so even though he was fine physically he was like back to being like a kid not able to go out alone no awareness of things. Even though his head injury was 3 month before mine I recovered quicker he wasn't able to drive til December 2014 and still didn't feel ready. I started back driving December 2013 and had to go through 2 assessments to prove I was ok. But there is hope for anyone that does struggle as the man is driving now and is fine to see him now you wouldn't think he had B so even if it is tough for years after there is hope.

Hi have you done the walk yet or was it cancelled because of the heat?

If you did how are you after it?

No not done it yet but will be doing it soon I think, its been a problematic thing to organise for them they have to get insurance for the carers doing it then organise stops and pick ups for the one's that have minor disabilities who can't manage as well but I have the majority of my gear and MRE'S, I need to get a camel hump and that's roughly the last thing, I have a little carrier rucksack for the dog too
