Gonna try and load one of my fave sunset pics I took back in 2011.

Its taken from entrance to Rockly Sands holiday park in Poole looking back across toward Swanage.

Hope it's not too big a file to load so here goes

Hi Geoff,

The file was not too big to load thankfully. You captured a very nice sunset, nice colours there.

I like sunsets, they can bring gorgeous colours at times :).

Nice picture though, keep up the good work :).

Take care,

MJ

Hi MJ

Was today your big outing day? If so how did it go?

I also stuck up one of a fern in longleat forest but unfortunately a winged insect got in the way and spoilt it ;-)

Thank you for the comment but just wish I could draw or paint as well. You certainly have the gift for it.

All the bestest

Geoff

Hi Geoff,

Yesterday was my outing, not really was it big though haha. The day went well though. I think everyone liked my clothing, especially the shoes, which were notreal shoes at all, they are xovers that went over my regular footwear :).

I know you say you would like to paint/draw well as well but taking photos can be an art in itself. Taking the right pictures and the perspective of some pictures can look really good.

I usually use photos, usually ones I find on the internet, as my reference for my work.

This would be one of the reasons why I could not publically sell my work, because it would be breaching copyright laws.

Take care,

MJ

Not sure about the copyright thing. If you actually physically used the photograph, a direct copy and past it of as your own work then it would do but doing a drawing or sketch inspired by rather than copied I would have thought would be OK unless of course you used tracing paper over the top.

If I were you I would check and ask the question if adding the 'inspired by a photograph by "x" would cover it without having to pay a royalty fee.

I actually do have some photos that I think are actually better than the ones I've posted but the trouble is it depends on what day I look at them as to which I think are the best, a mood thing I'm thinking. Te other thing is I look at then and thind "Mmmh! Thats quite good" then I see Country File or an exhibition somewhere and I think I'd best climb back into my box and hide.

Glad the day went well (that WAS plagurism both on my part and yours - WWII film title). Hope the independence continues to increase and your confidence with it.

Take care

Geoff

I have read up a bit about the copyright laws and I had people, fellow artists, tell me about the copyright laws and it is a very complicated subject.

Like what you mentioned, drawing a photo you were inspired by and selling that sounds like a safe bet as Two people could draw the same phot and the outcome could be slightly different in both.

But it still sounds pretty dodgy as a person like me drawing a photo is not exactly copying but I would be copying the source that inspired me.

Obviously, if it was a photo copy then that would definitely be breaking the law.

I have been told that you could draw a certain thing and slightly change it, like leave out the background or something else and you have made it your own that way.

What I do not understand is that any picture a person does, copied from inspiration or totally made up, it is still that person's work.

That is the complicated thing about it, brilliant isn't it :). (Sarcasm there if you did not spot it :D).

What you said about your photos, I think a similar thing with my art. I have had excellent comments on my work, you are one of those comments. I am greatful for the feedback I get and then I see other people's work and think, how ? Haha but another part of me is thinking, those artists probably haven't got a BI though, difference there!

I went to my local Headway in Portsmouth today. I got the bus from my house, got the ferry across, on my own! And met the volunteer at The Hard. We then got the bus to Mountbatten centre where Headway is located :).

Take care,

MJ

Well I don't really have the BI excuse because these were taken pre-BI. But it's nice to get positive feed back.

Didn't come here yesterday as had trip to neuropsychologist for second session with two more booked. Even got given homework just to confirm I'm firmly back into my second childhooh ;-)

Great pic again. Will you try to take any tomorrow am?
