The day has finally arrived!
Happy Bagpussmas to one and all!!
May the festivities begin...
Right back at you Andy xxxxxx
Andy,
I'm extremely embarrassed to have to ask this... but I've forgotten what it is you refer to as "Bagpussmas"?!
E x
Emma, you disappoint me
12th February, 1974. The day our saviour Bagpuss was first sent down to BBC for us.
Ahhhhh ok, 1974 was before my time (not by much I might add) haha!
I have a bagpuss hot water bottle, he used to have a mouse attached to his foot that used to sing "we will find it, we will bind it, we will stick it with glue glue glue, we will stickle it, every little bit of it, we will fix it like new new new"
But my beloved (and now deceased) furry feline, Alfie.. Decided to dismantle it and then keep it as a toy.. Aww I miss him
E x
Oh bless! See? You were a believer in the divine one and didn't even know it! And your toy had the disciples singing their hymn as well!!
Shame Alfie was an atheist....
Baron/Andy x
Oooh! Emma,
Aaaahh! 1974..... No. Don't remember it! Something to do with being 19, alchahol and 'stuff', other distractions with wiggly walks. A bit like the sixties saying "If you can remember it you weren't part of it".
Sorry about the demise of your furry friend. Pets bring so much joy...... and unfortunately destruction, but in a fun way.... well sometimes
Have you been able back to see your Grand National hopeful lately or crab fishing.
Geoff x
Hi Geoff,
Haha at your recollection of the 70's
No still not seen Bailey (my equine pal) and haven't been crabbing.... I can barely walk to be honest!
I am thinking a home move may be imminent for me and I might have to get a companion of the furry variety
E x
A home move sounds drastic unless it's by choice to a nice cosy bungalow with a sea view.
My two Labs are great company and their selfless affection an enlightening experience, such a shame more people aren't like it.
No good coming to you for crab sarnies then Or a tip on the National not that I gamble, history has proven I am NOT good at it, hence no shirts in the wardrobe
I can walk... slowly but finding the incentive to do it is the issue... especially when the weather's bad . My dogs mean I have no choice and that is a GOOD thing. Need to work on the Bagpuss figure I developed although I've lost three quarters of a stone since just before Christmas.... Think it's the neighbours gravelling their path by breaking up the large stone at the bottom of MY garden!
Geoff x
sorry ain't got a clue what this is either?
For anyone struggling with the concept of Bagpussmas, the occasion was conceived by Andy (Baron) as an alternative to Christmas in Dec 2014 and was hailed by many here as a refreshing idea.
As many of us have little or no recall ability, I suggest this is a reminder to rejoice and celebrate this new and momentous occasion.
And to humour the nutter ............ AKA BaronC.
Happy Bagpussmas from me too. xx
Add me to the list of bemused and confuddled.. I am pretty sure I ought to know but I am coming up empty (but then again I tried no less that five times to spell sure with an h...can't imagine why because I know how to spell it but every time my fingers hit that h key...duh! )
Does this occasion warrant the eating of cake of any kind? If so count me in
I believe so iforget.................the pink & white, striped variety ! x
Apparently cake eating is only permited if BaronC gets the first and biggest slice..... Oh and it has to be his own favourite type cake because he was the Clive Sinclaire of Bagpussmas.... As long as he doesn't turn into Alan Sugar we should all be OK
I like that you people are fully understanding this concept without it having to be explained
Livings fun why spoil it by being serious. Now all you have to do is discover an alternative to easter, Rag, Tag and BobTailster? Wooden Topster? If any one here remembers them welcome to the world of the wobbly ones
If one of my suggestion make it then I bagsies the biggest choc egg, one of those cream ones big enough that when cut in half I can swim in the cream.... Have to cut back on the caffiene beginning to lose the plot..
Pencilled in for Easter is Mr Bennster. Although your ideas are excellent, I'm afraid you're too slow. You are, however, welcome to the cream egg as they are utterly vile
Bought video of ' Watch with Mother ' classic children's favourites for my son :Wooden tops,Bill and Ben,Andy Pandy,Muffin the mule,Trumpton for my son, also Tales of the Riverbank-we loved that. Was never able to find one of Shari and Lambchop sadly.Flobbadob : )
NOW I HAVE HEARD OR MOST OF THESE.MUFFIN WAS BEFORE MY TIME , DON'T KNOA WO SHARI OR THE LAST ONE ARE
SHARI LEWIS WAS AN AMERICAN PUPETEER,
LAMBCHOP WAS BASICALLY A SHEEP SOCK PUPPET BUT UBERCUTE !
YOU CAN FIND THEM ON YOUTUBE : )
I used to love the Wooden Tops and Twizzle!
Yes,me too, especially TWIZZLE, had a book. And Andy Pandy, the one where the cat's eyes changed colour when naughty!
Just remembered another fav - Sarah and Hopperty and they used to start the programme on a swing!
I don't remember that at all. ??? But LOVED Tintin! And "blue blistering barnacles", what was his name the sea captain?
Not to forget Torchy. Even further back there was a puppet western called 'Five Feather Falls' hence my pation to be a gunslinger as a child. Didn't realise at the time hot lead hurts!
Now I think your going too far back for me! However this post has given me more awareness of age groups and that more people are of a similar age to me than I realized!
Oh yes Torchy! I went and bought what they called 'glitterwax' coz of that and was SO disappointed coz it wasn't glittery at all, jus different coloured waxes had to warm up then could mould = worse than plasticine but cooled and hardened, rubbish I thought.
TWIZZLE?? GOD I'M U SELESS,
MUST HAVE HAD A DEPRIVED CHILDHOOD.
I LIVED IN NORTHERN IRELAND FOR A WHILE SO MAYBE ALL THIS STUFF HAPPENED WHILST WE WERE THERE.
But also TV wasn't such a big thing in our childhood days either. I was mostly out playing and had the freedom to roam with my friends. I remember until I was in my teens we only had a small black & white TV and my dad used to be in total charge of that! Whereas in this day and age some kids have all the tv's and technology in their rooms. I am anti that in this house and don't have even a TV in bedrooms.
I had B&W TV until 1985! Amazing what you get used to and don't know you 'need' anything 'better' until have got used to having it. Loved having TV in my bedroom = warm (heat off and cheap) and comfy flat. Also kitchen: could watch, carry on watching, while cooking.
Nice to have choice of programme for each person but sometimes watch stuff together too. Usually ONE person gets to choose if only one TV so when my son young he and I each had a TV: he didn't want to watch my progs and I didn't want to watch his. Choice!
Yes, we were out roaming outside lots but almost always back to watch Tintin or whatever was on before the news. And watched Dixon of Dock Green, Dr Who (me hiding behind settee often coz scary) together.
Yes I remember hiding behind the sofa because the Darleks terrified me but just had to watch! I used to have nightmares of falling down this spiralling tunnel where the Darleks would suddenly appear from alcoves in the sides to exterminate me. I would wake up sobbing!
Never had nightmares in my life til now: repeats: homeless and nowhere to go with my stuff. AWFUL. Easy to see why: reflects my situation. FEAR & STRESS.
Did I read somewhere that you are now living in France? Or am i joining you as Muddled?
StrawCream: yes France but same in UK. Forced to sell my home pay massive debts coz DWP don't pay enough to live on nor mortgage but WILL pay rent that cost twice price. Moved so many times now when wake in night don't know where bedroom door is and in day turn to bathroom for loo and vice versa. Sick living in awful rentals, living out of boxes for 3 years now, can't find anything. Scared where I live: MUCH more scary than daleks and 9 months this place nearly, get fobbed off and signposted/passed on endlessly. Brain & memory even worse but nobody believes me. Apparently I don't say it in the right way or 'knock on the right door'. Feel very ill and sick but only offer of go into mental hospital = not appropriate at ALL, STUPID.
Yes,black and white TV here too for years.I spent my days off school playing out-it was deemed so much safer then. Our TV is in the bedroom -our living room is small and occupied by a freerange bunny with pen/toys so no room for a sofa. We tend use the bed as a sofa instead !I do like to watch a good late film in comfort : )
WHO? SERIOUSLY, I DON'T KNOW THEM WHICH WORRYING.
SHOULD I KNOW THEM.
If you can't remember the seventies, it's no bad thing
I DO REMEMBER THE 70s JUST NOT THTAT BIT OF IT.
I WAS 11 IN 1970. TOO OLD.?
I DO REMEMBER CAPTAIN PUGWASH THO BUT I THINK HE WAS A BIT EARLIER.
I WAS TWO !WHO WAS YOUR DOCTOR WHO THEN ?
By the way Andy,
Any chance of you being able to move Valentines Day a bit only I forgot to order the flowers or buy a card or do I still have time? Anybody going past Llidl, according to Martyn Lewis roses Ā£3 a bunch any other week Ā£1.50
He was just a saggy old, baggy old cloth cat but we loved him !Oliver Postgate was also responsible for the Clangers-another of my favourites.I was also fascinated with ' Fingerbobs '.Happy days : )
Well said! Another convert...
Recently been told I could be Bagpusses stunt double.... apparently I like laying around too much
My kids and I used to have periods of communication where only Clanger 'language' was allowed.
Yes, they're both as nutty as me & I miss those days.
The nice thing about having kids is that you get an excuse for a second childhood ! : )
Not too many ' stand out ' modern kids programmes these days.Love the muppets and 'Spider '-can still sing all the words to all the spider songs : )
The clanger used to drive me nuts! All that whistling just to get a bucket of soup off a crazzy dragon... was that Heston Blumental?
This post has ended up being a jolly reminiscent trip down memory lane! Think I used the flobberdob language as fancied a life being in a flowerpot!
I still do, I just can't help it now
You make me chuckle and that is a rarity these days! I look at your post photo and can't help grinning at the thought of you flubberdubbering! Meant in this nicest way so hope do not offend cos I know it is hard sometimes to see the amusement in our difficulties.
Yes, I was wrong age for bagpuss, sorry!
I think I missed out on Bagpuss too... but wooden tops (spotty dog) and Bill and Ben the Flower pot men (little Weeeeeed) were staples of my childhood...
But cake spans all generations and I am a huge fan of cake
Red velvet cake here tonight... In honor of Bagpuss. I loved the bespectacled owl very much, probably the reason I keep real ones now.
I'm all up for A Hartly Hare day too. Or hamble and Gemima.
We could probably have a special day each month at this rate with everyone childhood comforts
RUPERT. ON 21ST DECEMBER, (BIRTHDAY)
I NEED HIS SCARF IN THE WINTER.
I swear I only wanted a boy so I could dress him in check trousers, matching scarf and red jumper.
But when reality struck I managed to restrain myself and no, I didn't name him Rupert.
Loved that little bear though.......(not quite so much as the boy)
WAS IT RUPERT WHO WAS WITH THE THOMPSON TWINS & A WHITE DOG OR WAS THAT CAPTAIN PUGWASH?
THIS FRIPPERY HAS HELPED ME SO MUCH WITH LAST WEEKEND'S BRIAN TRIP TO A & E
EVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE MEMORY OF LESS THAN A SEIVE, THANK YOU.
I THOUGHT THE THOMPSON TWINS WAS A POP GROUP ?
Bagpuss Boxing day now...
...and a merry Bagpussmas to you too.
Happy Bagpussmas Boxing Day Any cake left?
