And did Santa fulfil your wishes?

I don't think he fulfiled mine :(... Completely anyhow. I did have a good Christmas. I got happiness and good food which was what I mostly wanted. My bro got me tickets to go see the Cinderella. Great show it was, Tim Vine was very funny :).

The wish I didn't get was to win the lottery. I would like enough money to go and live in the country next door to my family. Somewhere quiet and peaceful :). But sadly, I never got that. Oh well, there is next year :).

I'm glad you got the Christmas you wanted, that sounds like my kind of Christmas too :).

• in reply toMatt2584

I hope some day you get your dream in the country next to family

I would have to move hundreds of miles to be near family I love them and I like to see them but I enjoy livening in the area I live would like to just move a little closer to some friends

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584• in reply to

Tou are hundreds of miles away from them, that is a shame, sorry to hear that. I hope you get to move closer to some friends :).

I didn't have the Christmas i would have liked. We have some family problems at home with my partners son and his wife.

Things aren't quite right and its been stressful and upsetting for me.....

Basically he met a girl, married her after about two months in church (beg nov) they still live with us and at chrristmas she invited her brother from abroad to stay for two weeks and another brother for Christmas and new year from this country. They never asked us.

All Christmas she stayed in bed and the husband and brothers waited on her like she was a queen. She pays no money towards her keep. She is disrespectful.

This has and may still come close to splitting myself and my partner up because it has caused an awful situation i haven't wanted or needed.

i was looking forward to a lovely family quite Christmas. My two children spent this Christmas with their dad(as they do alternating each year) so i felt quite sad this year..

Hoping next year is a nicer Christmas :-)

Karen must be a very difficult and stressful situation for you, not good to add to your headaches etc. hope you can reach a resolution soon. X

• in reply toSem2011

Hi Sem yes youre right there i think something will have to give soon.Well see.

When you aren't well you try to separate yourself from problem stuff but its always in the background isn't it and part of life i suppose.

I went for my first neuro psychologist appt today. She gave me a relaxation cd to help with my headaches.pain- might help with the other stuff too lol!

Aww, I'm sorry to hear you did not have the christmas you would have wanted/needed, Karen.

I really hope that next Christmas, or should I say 'this Christmas' is much better for you :).

• in reply toMatt2584

Thanks Matt lets hope so. We still had fun on here though with our Xmas jumpers etc didn't we :-)

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584• in reply to

We sure did have fun posting pix of the Christmas jumpers, I shall do the same later this year, I have a couple of new ones to add to the roster haha.

I hope that something simple, like the jumpers, eased the stress of christmas a bit. Christmas is supposed to be a fun, happy time of year and it isn't very nice to hear about people having a sad time :(.

Hi Karen,

Sorry to hear that you were put in such an aukward situation.Sometimes we have to do what is perceived as something a little ungenerous for the sake of our own health and wellbeing. Its your house after all,so any extra work/adjustments to your routine from additional guests should only be by mutual agreement -not sprung upon you last minute.I used to give in to every request for my time/attention from rather demanding neighbours-I have had to learn to say no.They may not like it and often try to guilt me into feeling sorry for them but it cuts no ice with me now.I am prepared to do what I think is reasonable within my limits and no more.It is not selfish to safeguard your own wellbeing.I hope you are able to implement some rules with your son and daughter in law for the future-they need to understand and respect your needs. x

• in reply toangelite

Thanks Angelite i agree totally with everything you are saying i just kind of think though that if i say something(its my partners son by the way) that ill really blow up because i do feel angry inside.

I think I'm afraid it will cause a big row and split myself and my partner up and deep down I'm trying to avoid that and all the emotions /upset that will cause.

I think at least staying quiet is giving me a bit of peace and respite for now lol. Strange families are aren't they and yes long gone are the days where respect was heard of!

My partner did have words last night whilst i kept stumb and is putting some rules in this weekend!...we'll see.!

I know how you feel actually. I have problems with my Dad, I won't go through it all now but he is basically he can be the worlds biggest... You get the point I think haha.

There are loads of things I would like to say to him but do not have the guts to say anything to him because I know how he is going to react and it could cause a massive argument between me and him and afterwards he will then become the incredible sulk and that is one of the things I hate.

So like you say, I usually keep shtum and just let him be an A-hole and me and my mum and brother all talk about him behind his back haha.

• in reply toMatt2584

Shtum is a good word sometimes isn't it Matt-funny word.wonder where it comes from?

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584• in reply to

It is a good word and according to a website called 'The phrase finder' this is the origin:

"This probably derives from the German word stumm meaning silent. The phrase keep schtum (variously spelled 'keep stumm', 'keep 'keep shtoom', 'keep schtum' etc.) is British and fairly recent. It has the sound of a Yiddish phrase but it is more likely that it originated in the UK criminal community. The earliest citation of it is in Frank Norman's, book Bang to rights: an account of prison life, 1958:

"I think it's much better to keep shtoom."

"You can always shtoomup if any screws are earholeing."

• in reply toMatt2584

Ok ill go with keepin shtoom n get my guns out when needs be n get shtootingemup then Matt lol :-)

Glad you had a good one Matt.Had a nice but brief Christmas this year-worked right up until Xmas and New Years Eve and ended up pulling an all nighter til 5 am on the Eve to get all the wrapping done !(bit zombiefied for the Day).Seemed to fly by-enjoy the season but struggle with the additional prep.No snow : (

Love Tim Vine-my son bought me the Jokomotive DVD when I was ill-watched it over and over !My sister has booked for us to see him live as this years birthday present-really looking forward to it : ) pen behind the ear,pen behind the ear.......

My Mum works for ASDA and she had to work around christmas time, the day before Christmas eve I think? Times are getting so rough now. My mum can see her and others working on Christmas day. In the future. Supermarkets and other companies are so greedy for money. No snow for me either :(. I and my mum saw a few flakes come down a couple of times before the day but we would love to be snowed in on christmas day and love the snow to bugger off if we ever go out haha. Maybe I could get a zimmerframe and attach a snow plough to it haha.

Depends on the job, I spent Christmas day looking after a old boy, in hospital.

We sang dirty drinking songs, swore Watched carry on nursing etc. was a hoot attualy and after I picked up a lad from his home he'd spent the day with mum/dad etc. was a very long day but worth it.

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584• in reply toRogerCMerriman

Sounds like you had a great Christmas then :).

RogerCMerriman profile image
RogerCMerriman• in reply toMatt2584

Was good but to use the anolgy I went though the red line, and once I've gone in to deficit takes days sometimes up to a week to build up energy levels.

I was dangerous tired the other day attemptef to cook realised I wasn't in control and after a while realizing this, so stopped turned everything off, made a lot of work for my wife as she attempted to rescue the meal.

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584• in reply toRogerCMerriman

And did your wife rescue the meal?

RogerCMerriman profile image
RogerCMerriman• in reply toMatt2584

she did poor woman, last thing she needed after a full days work!

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584• in reply toRogerCMerriman

Aw, you have one heck of a wife to finish off the meal after a full day at work.

angelite profile image
angelite• in reply toRogerCMerriman

Yea,you're right ,depends on the job.Cleaning offices -boring.Working for neighbour -depressing !Catalogue of moaning about health each time, weather,Christmas, other people, the price of beans in Peru-whatever !Yea she has some health problems but is far more mobile/ less pain than others I have worked for who had much better attitudes.Would have loved to spend the time with a spirited older person and in fact did next day -my Dad ! : )

Matt, can't find it now but somewhere you wrote about dates and nuts and I'd forgotten about dates: I used to love them so I bought some and mmmm, yum. Nuts tricky for me: get stuck in my teeth, very annoying. But here's a question: the dates I bought are VERY sweet and no list of ingredients = is glucose or sugar usually added to dates in long pack with stones in? Coz in past I bought DRIED dates, less sweet and I know no added sugar = do you know please?

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584• in reply to

Dates are very tasty indeed. I could eat a bag of those bad boys instead of chocolate sweets. I like to eat pitted dates, no stones, just shve them in the ol' clap trap, so to speak haha. I like to eat Mejool dates as well. As far as I know, there is no sugar or glucose in dates. The only sugars are the natural sugars of the fruit.

I wasn't much of a fruit and nut kind of person when I was in my teens. Now that I am starting to eat them more, I find thm addictive. Goodbye junk food :).

I feel the same way about seedles grapes-can practically machine gun them in ! : )

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584• in reply toangelite

Grapes are nice too :). I prefer the seedless ones a bit better. At the moment I am eating the seed-filled ones, they are whoppers :).

Thanks Matt. I used to love seedless grapes and eat loads of them (at start couldn't eat grapes at all coz juice went down before I was ready: damaged throat/difficult swallowing), I choke trying not to swallow juice and spit stones out but here in France there are NO seedless grapes. It's good they sell local french grapes but the pips make them VERY hard work to eat, shame.

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584• in reply to

I have trouble with swallowing, spluttering, choking but that is mainly cos of my BI. I have a brain tumour on the brain stem, the part of the brain that controls swallowing and speaking and I think it does other things to, but can't remember what. Anyway, I had yet another op on my head and before the op, the surgeon asked me to give a cough, so I did and she told me that I would wake up after the op with a chest infection. She knew that just by me giving a cough! Anyway, I was saying to her "What if I don't " and she was adamant that I would. I told my family when I got back home and my brother told me to stock up on lots of vitamin C before the op. So I did, grapefruits galore, and when I had the op, I did not wake up with a chest infection. It shows how much docs/surgeons know :).

• in reply toMatt2584

well done you matt, great you prepared, maybe tell docs to tell patients to get as healthy as possible pre-op?! And maybe just luck of the draw and maybe, herein France they make people scrub-down in shower before ops with anti-bacterial solution, would be interesting to know if this DOES prevent infections or not - anyone counting to see/learn I wonder?

Don't know if this is of interest to anyone with brain tumour but might be: everywhereist.com/20-things...

Matt2584 profile image
Matt2584• in reply to

Thanks :). It would be a handy thing indeed if docs incouraged patients to eat well or be in good health before there op.

The 20 things to expect after brain surgery is quite interesting. I shall add though that some things may be worse than others depending on what part of the brain has the most damage. I know people who have banged the front of there head, causing brain damage to the back end of their brain, and they have good balance but a bad memory.

My second brain tumour caused pressure on my cerabellum, part of the brain which controls balance. My memory is pretty good but my balance is poor.

Sorry for late reply i was ill christmas period
