You need to check with your consultant or GP about your licence as each case is slightly different.

You can take tests which can ensure that you are ok to drive though DVLA do not always require this. But it might help your confidence.

With your bike, just take great care and wear a helmet at all times to protect your head.

It takes time for confidence to return

Take care x

Hi Richey

It's worth just asking your doctor what he thinks.

I was really nervous. I found an instructor who specialised in teaching people with various disabilities. He'd had a stroke himself.

He reassured me that my driving was fine. I do drive an automatic and avoid driving at night and not so keen on heavy rain.

I basically stop driving if I feel in the slightest bit unsafe.

Best of luck.

I don't know if your in the UK, but here you are required to inform the DVLA of any health issue that affects your driving or the safety of others. I had a stroke in 2002 which left me unable to feel the left-side of my body as well as I used. The DVLA required me to allow them access to my medical records and they also asked me what I considered was appropriate. They were very understanding. In the end I was restricted to driving automatic cars. You are also required to inform your insurance company, as failure to do so invalidates your insurance. As I say, you have to consider the safety of others.

Hi there

It is now almost eighteen months since my fall. I went out to SA to visit my sons in February and whilst I was there did quite a bit of driving. I must say that after driving for three weeks, I was glad to hand the car keys over. I just found the driving quite stressful, and for the time being, I am happy to catch buses!

I have to say, as I had my accident in SA, and was living with my son till last August, I was put behind the wheel very early on. I did not drive on the main roads at that time though, and was lucky enough to have a suburb full of small holdings, where there were lots of dirt roads. I have my sons to thank as my fear of driving was taken away by their actions.

Good luck!

Probably wise to chat to the DVLA, if you haven't and they find out, almost probably.

If you relinquish your licence, you tend not to have prove your fit, your allowed after a set time.

For myself (I had a fractured skull and subdural hemotomas) once 6 months had passed I was legal to drive, though they haven't returned my physical licence yet, since they want to check with my GP.

Sounds like your getting vertigo (head swimming?) I get it but only if washing my hair in the bath or similar movements.

My walking has improved greatly since being refured to the Nero rehab, who have got my walk in a short space a lot better.

Not what you're looking for?
