Do I have Graves' disease or Hyperthyroidism?

Six weeks ago, I had Multinodular goiter, on right and left side of thyroid. Had biopsy, benign. I'm diagnosed as Hyperthyroidism in June, 2017. My symptoms were losing weight, good appetite, tired, little weak, feeling very nervous, heart palpitation, lack of sleep, etc. I'm taking Methimazole (30mg) once a day and Propranolol (20mg) three times a day. My blood result on June 23rd.

TSH - 0.005. (0.270-4.200)

T3 - 169.1. (80.0-200.0)

T4 - 3.150. (0.930-1.700)

TpoAb - 7IU/ml. (<9IU/ml)

Took another blood test (6 weeks later) on August 3rd (recent.)

TSH - 2.400 (0.270-4.200)

T3 - 74.5 (80.0-200.0)

T4 - 0.884 (0.930-1.700)

Today, the doctor said my TSH is now normal. She didn't say anything about T3 and T4. I've noticed T3 and T4 is little low. She told me that I only can take one Methimazole10mg and stop taking propranolol. She never mention if I have Graves' disease or not. Wondering if I have Graves' disease? She said I don't have autoimmune disease. Do you think I'm doing the right thing of taking Methimazole 10mg and stop propranolol? Your help or suggestion is greatly appreciated it. Thank you.

I've noticed no one has replied - I'm assuming the holiday season has effected this? I'm not very knowledgeable on this but do know that propanalol counteracts the symptoms of hyperthyroidism, so if you feel you can go with out them, do. I came off them but have since gone back on them. Palpitations returned! I have Graves because I had antibodies present. Hope this helps a little 😊

Hello not sure if you still check here, however, I also found it very confusing at first. I had none of the hyperthyroid symptoms you mentioned. The way they dx Grave's disease is with the auto-immune test. If you do not have any auto-immune disease, you don't have Grave's disease. Grave's Disease is an auto-immune disease. I have this. Graves disease is the chief disease and the hyperthyroid is one of the many possible manifestations of the auto-immune disease Grave's. My TSH was like yours barely detectable and that is why they dx hyperthyroid.

The symptoms I had were intolerance of heat and my hair did not grow for 7 months and I had bald patches. My other symptom was my eyes hurt, were very red and swollen in the eyelids and forehead. We didn't know it then but I had the beginnings of Grave's Ophthalmology. My endocrinologist dr. did not find it. My eye dr sent me for an eye disease specialist when I had progressively larger rt eye and swelling over a year. The eyeballs pop out and hurt, exposing the iris above and below the pupil. Very possible to have Graves dis w normal thyroid test, but not possible to hv Graves w/o a/i disease.

Fortunately, there is tx now that my eyes have disfigured my face. In Dec. I go for eye surgery on both eyes called Orbital decompression, they wait 3-4 months to see if eyelids return to normal and if they can close all the way (they don't now). Once the swelling goes down and the eyelids return to positioning, they can remodel skin to lids via surgery so that they will be able to close all the way. I do not know anyone with GO or anyone that has had the decompression surgery which is a pretty delicate surgery that calls for a specialist with exper.

Good luck with your thyroid and the nodules, happy to hear they are benign. Sounds like you are on your way to being cured. Hopefully, after my surgery, I too will be on my way to a cure!
