Have you suffered from low back pain and aches? Have you discovered your vitamin D levels were low following coeliac diagnosis? Have you received vitamin D injections & prescribed supplements to boost your levels and noticed you back pain has improved?

I have never had any vitamin or mineral levels checked. They don't appear to do any follow ups regarding coeliac disease in my area ... so it's a case of do-it-yourself and self-education. I eat as naturally as I can and try to incorporate a wide range of foods - at least those that cause no problems with my digestion. I have noticed though another cause of lower back pain and that is lack of salt. I only use small amounts of salt. I use it in cooking only and do not buy any form of processed foods. From time-to-time I get a pain in the lower back which goes away after increasing my salt levels for one or two days before reducing my intake again.

I also have never had any vitamin & mineral levels checked, on the whole I don't think that follow ups are good in my area either, I am at present suffering lower back pain and it has been daily for the last three weeks, I too eat very little salt, dont cook with it or add to food at table. But recently I stopped eating chicken & fish, and have gone totaly vegetarian, I wonder if that has something to do with lack of vitamins & minerals causing back pain?

I feel a fraud asking for bloods tests, I feel once you are diagnosed, its a case of go on a GF diet and your health will be normal.

I didn't have any routine blood tests to see if I was low in any vitamins/minerals.

When I had been GF for six weeks and seen no improvement in my joint pain/fatigue the GP rang the consultant and she suggested testing my iron levels, which were low and needed supplementing.

A few months later I went back to the GP armed with printouts from various websites and asked to be tested for other deficiencies, which led to me taking Vit D supplements.
