I believe it is free for the first six months. If you have a Facebook account then you can link to them and get up-to-date information via your news feed free all the time. You can also get Allergy UK through the Facebook news feed which is also free. Remember also that Fiona here from GFG also places plenty of useful information via Facebook - just need to click the like button and it pops up on your newsfeed.

I hope that is a little help Elspeth - always remember that you can ask all kinds of questions here and usually someone has useful information that they will be able to give you.

The book of info about g/f food that coeliac uk sends out must be worth at least £5 & the regular magazine. It is well worth £5 & I am really sorry that you do not have that money at the moment because for a coeliac it is probably the most useful use of £5. I have to say that I totally support them charging a minimum of £5. Not only do I get my yearly book of food I can eat, a regular magazine & the knowledge that they are doing a lot of research.

I have to agree with Judith. It's £5 very well spent and also givesyou loads of vouchers and freebees as well as putting you in touch with others locally who provide wonderful support.

Retired in 70s, so pay £10, well satisfied.

Well worth the money. Hope you can afford it soon. They send a book with all the foods you can have and in which shop you will find them. They have local support groups, who have coffee mornings with delicious cakes all gluten free, and they only ask for a donation for them. It is always good to meet with others. The Nottingham group have meals out, which is lovely at Christmas as the whole meal is gluten free. Hope you can soon save up your £5 pounds, as it will enable you to also receive their interesting magazine, with all the latest up-dates.

I have joined now cos I have had to, I need the prescribable products list but just would rather have made a donation when it was more convenient for me moneywise but still have been able to join. I dont want something for nothing I just dont have much money just now and everything gf costs so much! I am sure the book will be worth it though!

Hi Elspeth - good question. Many other charities don't charge for membership eg Thyroid yet many of these get government funding unlike Coeliac UK. If you can't afford to re-join feel free to message us about what codes you need and we're sure some of the team here can help you out with codes. Some new products on prescription worth a look are:

BiAlimenta GF pasta variety pack 364 1438

3000g 2 x Acici de Pepe / pasta grains 2 x 500g Penne, 1 x500g Sagnette, 1 x 500g Spirals

note: the pasta grains are new and can be used like couscous ie so small you can make nice salads

Plus we love this - it's about the only product we love and order on prescription:

BiAlimenta GF Gnocchi 6 x 500g 351 1961

I know what you mean Elspeth. I'm going to try some new recipes and will share these on Facebook/ pinterest & via our pals coeliacinthecity.com 's new website.

The Gnocchi is great. To be honest I've never been a huge fan of potato (despite Irish roots!). Never ever would I order it in a restaurant. But as you say it can be hard to be creative on a GF diet and this is where I have found it so handy. Literally boil a pan of water - throw in a handful of Gnocchi - watch the little pieces rise to the surface then drain - this only takes 2mins! Perfect for speedy lunches or dinners. Then add whatever you like e.g. can't cook / won't cooks can just add pesto or sundried tomato sauce (top tip throw in some frozen peas when you boil the gnocchi for extra ooomph) and some fresh basil. Creatives can create any sauces you like in advance - even leftover bolognese works with it.
