Is what I am experiencing Gluten Intolerance

Hi I started having these episodes where my skin feels hot to touch on my forehead, neck, back and chest followed by a numb/light headed/dizzy like feeling that can then cause palpitations. I have lost weight more than 7 Kg. My stool has changed. I also feel slight disbalance at times with slight blurred vision. I am still not diagnosed after bloods, blood pressure and ECG. I had a feeling this could be gluten intolerance, which after a couple of days of consuming rice seems to help. Just wanted to see if these are symptoms others have had as well before I approach the GP

Gluten intolerance and coeliac disease can both have a very big array of symptoms, so no doubt you'll find others with similar. Also make sure your doctor tests for thyroid issues, as your symptoms sound like they could also be attributed to that.

Don't stop eating gluten until after you've been tested for coeliac disease, as you may get a false negative if you do.

I have had a terrible itchy rash for the past 4 months and I also have palpitations and light-headedness. Fatigue like I've never known and sleep deprivation due to the itchiness. No stomach problems at all though. I am waiting for the results of a second batch of bloods and 2 biopsies and I think I may get a gluten intolerance diagnosis, on the basis of what I've read. Seems there is quite a range of symptoms and that some people are asymptomatic.

Thank you for sharing, the light headedness/brain fog/numbness feeling for me is followed by palpitations. Please do share if you get a positive diagnosis. I feel less of a misfit after joining this group :)

Your symptoms could be due to gluten intolerance but to many other things also. If you are going to be tested for gluten issues you need to stay on a normal diet for at least 6 weeks before the test otherwise you will not get a true result. Coeliac disease can cause a lot of problems if not detected and acted on, some of these can be life changing. Take care, keep safe.

The itchy rash may be Dermatitis Herpetiformis, which is a Celiac skin disease. If you have DH, you are Celiac. I never had gut issues (pain), but suffered with IBS for many decades. I would recommend, before undergoing any invasive procedures, to get a biopsy of the rash. If you have any blisters along with the rash, have a dermatologist take a biopsy from the base of the lesion, not the top. That will confirm if this DH. If it is that is confirmation that you have Celiac and no other tests are required. You will have to go grain free and watch your iodine intake closely, as iodine can cause worse flare ups with DH, than gluten. That means you will also have stay away from kelp, seaweeds, shell fish, soy, yeast, vitamin E sourced from wheat germ. etc. You will also have to take care about your topicals and their ingredients. Here is a list of what to look out for.

Avena sativa (oats)

Beta glucan (frequently derived from wheat)

Colloidal oatmeal

Dextrin palmitate (starch, possibly gluten-based)

Vitamin E (frequently derived from wheat)

Hordeum vulgare (barley)

Hydrolyzed vegetable protein (may contain wheat)

Hydrolyzed wheat protein

Laurdimonium hydroxypropyl (hydrolyzed wheat protein)

Malt extract (usually barley)

Secale cereale (rye)

Stearyl dimonium hydroxypropyl (hydrolyzed wheat protein)

Triticum vulgare (wheat)

Vegetable protein (may contain wheat, barley, rye and/or oats)

Wheat germ oil

Now, the absence of any of these ingredient names doesn't necessarily mean the product is gluten-free — there are numerous other chemicals (some with very difficult-to-pronounce names) that can be derived from wheat, barley, rye or oats. Gluten-based ingredients also can hide behind catch-all ingredient names such as "fragrance," and the components of these may be a closely-guarded trade secret.

The only way that any G P that can diagnose you with coeliacs is by doing a small intestine biopsy they put a camera down your throat and take a small sample of your small intestine then they test it this is the only way they can find out a blood test is not reliable it can give false readings I know as I had this done
