Ice cream

Does anyone know if Mackies ice cream is gluten free ? I eat the basic vanilla which doesn't mention gluten at all though it says it is suitable for vegetarians .....which makes me suspect they don't want to swear it 's gluten free !

Lottie8, we have been eating Mackies ice cream for years. From the ingredients and checking on the website it is GF. Husband has only recently been diagnosed with CD so we check and double check all the food that comes into our house as he was very ill.

Thank you Bazmack. We have been eating Mackies for ages too. I think it one of the best ice creams around. I have only been gluten sensitive for about four years. I couldn't find anything about gluten on their site. I have been having fairly gluten like symptoms on and off for a few weeks. I am being treated for breast cancer so it must be one of the endless drugs. But I also suddenly got a passion for ice cream and thought I'd better check ! I know I'm not being very logical about this .....I spend ages checking for gluten.....but my brain has all but disappeared recently.

Sorry you are not feeling 100%, hope you are on the road to recovery. I had cancer 3 years ago and now waiting for results of CT scan done earlier last week to see if I have another tumour to deal with. Look after yourself and enjoy your ice cream.

Halo Top ice creams are gluten free, available in the Tesco’s. Really nice.

swedish glaze is made from Soy which is a no no for people who' ve had breast cancer ( at least in the non fermented form as in ice cream)

Hi, Mackies produce a high quality ice cream and there would be no need to put any gluten ingredients into the mix. Their 'Traditional' flavour is purely milk, cream and sugar, not even any vanilla. Always read the label because they need to declare any allergens by law. If they start to make something with inclusions e.g. Cookies and cream, that might be a different story.

I think every vanilla ice cream is gluten free but i have had that one and it did not affect me and i am severly aftected but gluten when i had my first blood test it showed i was celiac and yet i had not had gluten for over a month it was terrible going back on gluten for the biopsy but it proven i dont cope even with the codex level
