Dairy IGG withdrawal

Following on from the earlier post about eating out, I was dairied quite spectacularly over our holiday from the 20-24rd August. Having paid attention to what I have been eating since the 24th August I am still really struggling with brain fog, gloopy sinus, stomach pains and water retention. Today I have only eaten mushrooms and steak in an effort to clear everything out and I feel quite a bit better but would like to know if anyone has an eta on recovery?! Thank you x

Everyone’s recovery time is different, so just keep on with your safe foods. Something like ginger or peppermint tea may help with the stomach pains.

If you think you may be unable to avoid dairy in the future, perhaps it might be worth trying some lactase tablets?

Thanks Penel. Lactase won’t work as I cannot tolerate casein. Thought I could eat a bit without feeling too bad but was wrong!

If you haven't already, see your GP and have your B12 serum level checked. My B12 was low and I couldn't digest gluten dairy and at it's lowest meat. I am sky high on B12 now and can tolerate all foods.

That’s really interesting. Are you in the UK? Was it a blood serum test? What were your symptoms apart from toleration of food? Btw I have a positive igg test for casein from York test so am sure I shouldn’t even be cheating on it. Just hellish trying to recover from it.

Yes I am in Wales. It is a blood test. But do not treat with B12 until told to by GP Please check this out

Also check out PA on healthunlocked.com as you seem to have some of the symptoms eg brain fog.

Best wishes .

I no longer worry about overdosing on B12 since excess is not harmful. I have found that the best way to take it is in the form of a sticky patch applied to the upper arm where the skin is thin. It's about the size of a small corn plaster and you can leave it in place for a week. You can buy them on Amazon Marketplace See amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00...

The reason I said not to take supplementary B12 before being tested was that it will skew the results of the B12 serum blood test.

Thanks for this. I’ll take a look. I certainly feel better when I take a b complex!

I have been being sick physically and throughout my body from dairy and gluten since a very young child. I was even hospitalised at 2 yrs for malnutrition because I threw everything up. But I didn’t have the D that gluten indicated back then so they didn’t put 2+2 together. Dairy bunged me back up again! And the bloat was probably malnutrition from inability to absorb anything despite the constant constipation... so I do trust in my results from the Yorktest and so does my docs surgery

There are certain safe foods, when I started out many years ago they were pork, bananas, pears, rice and de-mineralised water. These will have changed. Eating these should be safe and provide the minimum nutrition. After a few days on this diet add other foods, I was told. Being this drastic might not be necessary. Find a dietician who understands you.

I am casein intolerant and every kind of dairy products. I've same problem when ever I accidentally consume something contaminated with dairy. The most annoying symptoms I get is nose congestion, brain fog, fatigue, headaches and it last for one week for sure. It is far different from getting gluten exposure for me. Gluten makes me nauseated, threw up bloating and constipated.
