Stomach!!

I mentioned my stomach bloating a first symptom of my diagnosis of being coeliac...I've been on a gluten free diet for several months now but the bloating isn't any better at all but what's worse is that I'm bloated above my stomach too so I look like I have one big fat stomach and atleast 6 months pregnant! I don't know what else to do.i feel like it's stopping me taking in deep breaths too.does anybody understand?😞

Could you be getting cross contamination from anywhere?

Some advocate cutting out dairy and oats initially while your gut heals - you can try them again after a month or so to see how you get on.

Do you live with anyone, and are they gluten free?

When my OH was diagnosed, we had a big kitchen clear out - we had to scrub all surfaces, cupboards, cookware, bin everything wooden or teflon, get rid of our toaster and Tupperware and boil wash our tea towels. Are you still using old things that could have gluten in them?

If you live with others, you should have a separate gluten free space to prepare your own food, and have separate cupboards to store your food in if possible.

You should consider intolerances to other things as well. Taking things out of your diet for around a month to see if your symptoms improve (try something like whole 30 or auto-immune paleo).

Hi SID123

On a personal level, I know that milk and yoghourt cause my stomach to bloat and make me feel lethargic as does gluten. I have not sought advice from a doctor, I just feel a lot better eliminating these food sources from my diet although I may ocasionally have thick set whole milk yoghourt.

You could try using lactose-free milk, you can get it in major supermarkets.

It’s quite common to have problems with lactose if you have problems with gluten, because of the damage to the intestines. Sometimes it’s only temporary and will improve once your insides have had a chance to heal.

After cutting gluten, many people find that dairy or just lactose causes additional problems. So that is probably the next thing to try to eliminate as well as gluten.

I dont suffer the bloat etc since cutting dairy but i had allergy testing to confirm my nonos.

Yes I live with my family but none of them are gluten free.you sound like you did a really good job with your clear out!

Some supermarket gluten-free bread can cause bloating. It’s a good idea to keep ready-made gf foods to a minimum, as they can be full of additives and sugar.
