I'm being tested for celiac but in 7 weeks time because I've been gluten free for 7months and my fears have come true I dont know if its a coincidence but I've lost 4lbs over night I tend to not lose weight or put on weight over night so I'm shocked๐Ÿ˜ฎ All I had was a duck wrap a shortbread pud ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I dont wanna lose anymore weight I have no clothes that fit me ๐Ÿ˜‚ Is it a celiac reaction as well to get stomach pain whilst you eat gluten then stomach pain for ages and bloating after you've ate gluten?

Hi Abi

Losing that much weight overnight could be down to water loss.

Weight can be lost because a gluten damaged gut cannot absorb food very well, but Iโ€™ve not heard of that happening overnight. If this weight loss carries on, you need to go back to the doctor. Try to eat the most nourishing foods you can, make sure you are eating a good amount of protein and drinking water.

Unfortunately itโ€™s very common to have stomach pains and bloating after eating gluten.

It could be I'll keep an eye on my weight ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I would say its just coincidence but my weights been quite stable at the moment so if I lose anymore it could be due to stress or gluten ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Thank you for the reply ๐Ÿ˜Š

It's not really possible to lose 4lbs of fat/muscle overnight like that, so I reckon it'd be water weight. Keep an eye on it, but make sure you eat plenty of healthy fats.

Most people with coeliac disease don't feel symptoms come on immediately (one of the frustrating things sometimes, because you can't work out where it happened). The gluten needs time to reach your gut and cause a spike in antibodies. Many won't get any symptoms at all for a few days even.

Ahhh okay it may have been I checked this morning I've only lost another 1lbs but havent put that 4lbs back on ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Hmmm tbh I constantly have stomach pain after I eat (I'm also being tested for crohns I bet I'm lucky and have both) but I just felt it was heightened with gluten also I definetly noticed my stomach has started making more noise after I eat ๐Ÿ˜‚

As long as it doesn't keep up at 4lbs a day! Also be sure you're eating enough salt, it helps us absorb water.

When I first became gluten intolerant I lost 2 stones in six weeks. Due to very poor doctors here in Wales I was never diagnosed with anything (not even gluten intolerance!) Good luck to you.

I found that whatever I ate was going straight through me without being digested, taking only a couple of hours to do the journey! That was a few years ago, now I find there are many foods beside gluten that transit too quickly. I have since regained a few pounds and only ever eat meals made from scratch, and at home.

Hi some people get that reaction with stomach pains, bloating.. I'm reacting to different things but get horrendous pain and vomiting. I'm very under weight on coeliac diet and only weigh 8 and quarter stone and I'm 5ft 9 tall so look to skinny. I went up to 11.5 stone during chemo and like you I have a wardrobe full of clothes that don't fit and it's difficult to get clothes that fit. I've just been started on a powder called maxijul to try get some weight on. I would think it's possible to loose 4lb coz my weight goes up a little, if I'm poorly it drops off mega quick

Oh no that sounds awful ๐Ÿ˜ญ I must admit when I used to eat gluten I felt nauseous all the time and had sessions where I felt like I was going to be sick I still have them now but not as much (thats why I'm being tested for crohns as well) I'm not looking forward to 6 weeks of it ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I dont look that skinny because I'm only 5ft5 but with a weightof 7st 5lbs I'm underweight ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I hope you are getting better? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
