Best bought GF pizza base and burger buns?

Hello all. Am coeliac so am pretty experienced with the whole GF thing but my kids are having various medical problems and we have decided to go GF as a family for 6 weeks starting in the summer holidays. I want to get to right to try and keep them motivated so looking for suggestions for typical kids foods please. So they don't like my pizza bases that I make myself with GF flour and stuff- obviously like a more processed flavour (LOL!) and any ideas on burger buns (but can't have seeds on top!) Any other suggestions? We don't have large supermarkets near us so may have to buy online etc.

Thanks in advance

🙂

Would it be better to get a definate test to go on their notes.

Scarr frozen rolls are nice but might be too hard for burgers- no seeds tesco s arent too bad but i have found with loads of foods it is a matter of personal taste and going through the whole gambit of buy to try.

Goodfellas pizza is the one i have found the best for me but asda own is good too.

Oh ok yes goodfellas might well be to their liking- thanks for that and we'll try Tesco online for some buns to try too.

My daughter tested negative for the coeliac blood test 2 years ago- I know it's unreliable though. But she is terrified of needles. I actually think she has the start of a thyroid problem but too soon to medicate for that but thought gluten free may help with some nutrient deficiencies that often go hand in hand with thyroid probs and she is showing as having. And my boy, well he's just been poked and prodded too much already what with various operations, for me to put him through that and then still not have a definitive answer as none of the tests are 100% reliable. However if the the gluten free trial improves things then we can reconsider a more formal route maybe.

Many thanks again for your suggestions.

Goodfellas do a frozen pizza in most supermarkets and we recently got a pizza express one in the fresh pizza section at Waitrose. That said my boys prefer homemade pizza made with the newburn wraps. Mine have found buns a bit dry and too big to bite into do got Burger buns I Use their favourite bread which is the schar seeded but they do a white version - the crust is lovely and thick so I cut it into a round using a wide rimmed glass I use this for the top of the bun and use a normal piece of the bread cut into a round for the bottom. If you want purchased newburn and genius do make them but I feel you will need to make a trip to a large store or have an online delivery.

Sainsburys own brand of GF food is definitely the best I have tried. Good luck

Please only go gluten free as a family if EVERYONE involved has had a Coeliac blood test.

Trying to skip this important step is potentially storing up more trouble for later on.

NICE guidelines say that all your first degree relatives are automatically entitled to have the test.

Good luck with the pizzas!

My understanding is that if you have full blown coeliac disease, the blood test is reliable 95%of the time. It's only less so for someone in the earlier stages of coeliac disease.

I completely understand your reluctance with your son - you're trying to do your best for him.

However to try to reverse engineer the process later on is likely to be much worse on him than getting it out of the way now. If he is an undiagnosed coeliac, his symptoms would be horrendous if he had to reintroduce gluten into his diet for 6 weeks to qualify for testing.

Those are my thoughts anyways. Good luck with your family, it sounds like you have your hands full...!

Is there are half blown coeliac disease?!!! 😀

I'm not sure a diagnosis is the be all and end all to be honest. Ive lost my faith in the NHS at the moment due to various unpleasant journeys. Gluten free prescriptions may well no longer be available anymore and ongoing bloods and tests can be given by gentlemen right GP without. But I do appreciate you taking to times to express your concern. All the best

Goodfellas Margherita (GF) are great. I add extra topping like slices of mozzarella and salami to make them more interesting. My non GF family love them

My bloods did not indicate coeliac disease. I had bad symptoms diagnosed as IBS. During a gastroscopy a biopsy was taken which clearly showed Coeliac Disease. Be wary of putting too much reliance on blood tests. Neill.
