Are there any GF gravy mixes out there which are freely available? I do most of my shopping at Waitrose. At the moment I am using GF soups in casseroles, but would welcome a packet mix and haven't found a GF gravy yet.

Looking for GF gravy and casserole mixes
BISTO BEST contains no wheat but must still be made in a non gluten free environment as the label says MAY contain wheat. However it seems to be fine for my husband who is Definately gluten sensitive.
Hi Trenny, why not make your own by adding a desert spoon of plain gluten free flour with a little cold water mix to a paste and then add boiling water (makes about 1 pint) and then add some Marigold Swiss bouillon, I use the low salt one and it is organic and gluten free. You can also use it to make a cup of instant clear soup, and you can use the water from boing veg, which's what I do sometimes.
Hi Trenny
I make a roast chicken each week. Once I've pulled all the meat off I pour water over the bones, boil it up ( you can add herbs if you want) then simmer for hours. When cool drain off the stock and pour into tubs. I freeze them and use as stock in casseroles and soups. The stock is full of goodness and so tasty.
Kalo do a chicken gravy and beef gravy. It comes in a sachet about 90p and is usually on the free from aisle. It makes 300mls. I get it at Asda, and Tesco. Knot stock cubes are gluten free.
K
Yes, without doubt, these Kallo sachets are the best! Everyone likes them, even those who don't have to be gluten free. Tesco and Sainsburys, near us, now sell them, but I usually find them amongst the ordinary stock cubes and gravy mixes, not in the 'free from' aisle. It's worth asking the staff if you can't find them immediately.
Hi Trenny,
If you're a Waitrose shopper, then you may be interested to learn that they do a range of gluten-free gravys.
Instead of heading for the shelves, go towards the chilled section because it comes fresh in pots of 500g. It's not cheap, but it is a solution to your problem.
If you're looking for stock cubes to put in casseroles, then you may want to consider some (but not all - do read the labels!!) of the Knorr and Kallo ranges.
The Internet really is your friend. Logging on to Waitrose online will give you much more information. Type in what you want, then use Waitrose's very handy results filter to find out which ones are listed as gluten-free.
I would also consider signing up to Coeliac UK so that you can consult with their food directory. It can be quite useful when out shopping - it comes both as a Smart phone app and as an A5 sized book for those less technically minded.
MARIGOLD - I think Waitrose do it - most health food shops do it - Amazon do it - the one in the green tub is free of almost everything and makes a drink as well as for use in cooking - or buy some bottling jars, boil up chicken bones and make your own stock.
Yep - Bisto best every time. I am coeliac and v sensitive and I have no prob with this. If u have a freezer, why not make your own soup with any bones boiled with carrots and onion as the base stock then add whatever veg/lentils etc you like far healthier too.
Bisto's Best gravy is gluten-free.
I have a great recipe for tuna/quinoa casserole.
If I want something quick I use Kallo gravy mix I have seen it in Tesco, sainsburys & Asda it is about £1 I have tried Bisto best but prefer the tase of Kallo. I I have time I use the juices from the meat along with a bit of stock & water from the vegg and thicken it with cornflour for a home made gravy.
Hi Trenny this is something i have struggled with, there is a gravy that is gluten free that is available from Makro, you can buy it online, its very cost effective and is easy to make when you are short of time, as its similar to Bisto Best where you simply spoon into a jug and mix with hot water Here is a link to it
makro.co.uk/knorr-meat-grav...
There is also a chicken one as well, makro.co.uk/knorr-knorr-pou... both are vegetarian
Hope this helps
I use Bisto Gravy in a glass jar, its lovely.
I forgot to say you can buy it in Pound Stretcher, that's cheaper than any supermarkets.
Like many of the above commenters I use Bisto Best and Knorr Stock pots. I don't think any of the Bisto Best range have been labelled with gluten, but some of the Knorr range have. I usually check.
Yes bisto best in the glass jars are GF my advice is to take a membership to coeliac UK the will give you access to a food directory of all GF food found in your local supermarket waitrose included
Thank you all. I have just found this website, which looks useful: ilumiworld.com/shop/sauces-...
I live in Crete and cook mostly the Greek way - everything in one pot and into the oven. No need for any additives - just olive oil from our trees and sometimes lemon juice and whatever seasoning takes your fancy ! The juices come from the foods - so no need for gravy. Thought I would miss gravy on moving here - but the unctuous juices more than compensate !
This one requires you to put in a little effort but it is SO WORTH IT! elanaspantry.com/herb-gravy... I use my pan drippings as the base, instead of a store-bought broth. It's amazing that just blendering it up turns it into a creamy delicious gravy that even your non-GF guests will love! At least, mine did! And I love that there is no flour or starch AT ALL, gluten free or otherwise!
Hi Trenny I have just seen this new gravy mentioned on the CUK website isabelsfreefrom.co.uk/isabe...
Haven't seen it in the shops yet but will look when I go shopping
