I got diagnosed with coeliac in January on a gluten free diet. Now all of a sudden have started bleeding really heavily,is that normal. Bear in mind iv not had one for abt 5 years as had the coil got that removed last year and nothing. Not sure if its to do with the diet or im going through the menopause by the way im 51 thanks.

I've not heard of this happening because of what you eat. Probably best if you go and talk to your doctor soon.
Hi sammie, and I'm sorry for jumping in on a ladies issue but I've seen this before so please see: celiac.com/gluten-free/topi...
And the 8th reply is very pertinent to your symptoms, I believe.
I also think it is well worth discussing with your gastro as they've seen it all before and I hope things settle down for you soon and that your body is just adjusting to not being malnourished because of being an undiagnosed coeliac. And hope that this link reassures you that you're not alone in your symptoms.
Ps I'm really glad I'm. Bloke...LOL
Thanks so much jerry,so interesting I bet you are glad your a bloke.lol.
Hello, I know with some contraceptive devices that it can take some time after removal for things to return to 'normal' so could it just be your body settling back to life without a coil?
I had exactly this (heavy periods lasting several weeks when they were previously light) aged about 49 – at about the time I felt I was back to normal again after stopping gluten two years previously. I did wonder if it was linked but now think it was probably perimenopause, as it went away after and I rarely have them now at 51.
Can be gluten related. Can be fibroid too or anything related to us girls especially after age 35. UGGGGHHHH! I know had my share of heavy. But at our age group it's a crap shoot which or if you'll be heavy or even have two periods then miss without any procedures. In fact, we should be writing these down as sure both of us the drs will be asking for complete record more sooner than later! What they didn't know when younger was that Celiacs can skip months and months and be harder to get pregnant. When Celiac, just start there if you ever have a health issue isn't really a joke is it. But fair warning too going off tangent to women's issues with Celiac; Drs will insist bathroom issue is Celiac just by the time you get them trained of your symptom and since we're at risk for heart disease the first thing you do when you get unexplained cases, especially nasty ones and more frequent, when sure not glutened is mention it to dr and check for clogged arteries or kidney problems instead of my joke saying look for gluten. Women usually die first from first heart attack and this happened to Mom same day at Drs when totally ignored for that and swinging BP. In fact, even the major Celiac daughter/sister of mine ignored Mom and called her a hypochondriac. Mom was dead hours later. The bathroom issue is not on the email list of signs of heart attack but ask any older person I bet they know friends who had it. Just don't confuse it for Celiac later in life.
Hi iv been for a scan also had a biopsy not had results as yet.He seems to think its the menopause.,so all good. Just seemed strange getting a period after going gluten free.
