Steroid use in Glioblastoma Battle

Good Morning Everyone.

I was just wondering what kind of steroid doses people are on for countering the swelling on the brain around the tumour. My dad (a 78 year old diagnosed in October) had to stop radiotherapy 5 sessions into a course of 15 in January after an initially successful debulking. We cut off all treatment at this stage as there was significant post-op re growth and I have been using inhaled CBD and Prozac on him since, as well as his other anti-seizures meds etc.

About 6 weeks ago he had a fall in the night which led to a hospital bed at home, a live in carer, and three times a day palliative care. He stopped talking really and was not able to walk or feed himself. My fiancé came to stay and when she left she was certain he would not be around in the fortnight as he was starting to have breathing difficulties. However, I spoke to the GP and we upped his Dexamethasone dose from 4mg to 6mg a day and it was like a new man had appeared. He is out of bed for 7 hours a day now, has taken quite a few steps with the zimmer and is talking more and wants to try and use a toilet again. Does anyone know what kind of dose you can go up to before the more severe side-effects start coming in? I know steroids are a bit of a lost leader but with this kind of illness we obviously want him to be able to make the most of the remaining time he has with us!

Thanks,

James

My 24 year old buddy was just put on 3,000 of Keppra to help with seizures. He is on Decadron 18mg. He just had a seizure last week and they upped his dose 3 times the amount he was on.
