Timings for three sets of eyedrops

YoungontheOutside profile image

I currently take dorzolamide/timolol eyedrops 2 x daily plus monopost once at night. My eye pressure is still going up and so my consultant has now prescribed Iopidine 3 x daily.

It’s clear to me that I need to take the monopost last of all just before bedtime. But how should I manage the others? Do I space them out evenly throughout the day or should I take them one after the other in the morning and evening and then a separate dose of Iopidine lunchtime?

I would appreciate some advice as to what to do for the best.

Hello :)

Sorry to hear your pressure is going up, I hope the new drops help.

When I've been on multiples I clump them together, because I find it easier logistically than having to take drops at several different times. It is fine to take them like this, as far as I've been told, provided you leave a little time between each drop. I think 10 minutes is sufficient but the leaflet that came with the drops should mention something about this too.

So I would do

Morning: dorzolamide/timolol + iopidine

Lunch: iopidine

Bedtime: dorzolamide/timolol + iopidine + monopost

I space out the evening ones when I remember to - for example I'd do one before cleaning teeth, one after getting into bed, one after a bit of reading / audiobook - so I know I've left a bit of time between each :)

Thank you VikingBecky . I was hoping that it would be ok to do it like this.

Me too but not the same as yours I take Brinzolamide, Brimonidine twice a day and Timolol and Brimprost (known as Ganfort) once in the morning, I also used Hyaback 6 times a day and I have a GATT last June.

I use Cosopt, Alphagan and Lumigan, my consultant said to take the Cosopt and Alphagan in the morning thirty minutes apart and all three in the evening and each one thirty minutes apart from each other

Anytime I've started new drops, changed, added or stopped I always got specific directions from my prescribing Dr. Isn't it fun managing multiple drops throughout the day and night! Good luck, God bless.

I got curious about this seeing the other replies, so I did a bit of Googling and hope it's OK to share these information sheets. One from Moorfields, one from GlaucomaUK. They both suggest a five minute wait between glaucoma drops, but the latter says 30 minutes between drops for dry eyes and glaucoma drops.

Obviously though if your consultant has said something specific then follow that 🙂

I think VikingBecky has it right.

Just try and keep to roughly the same times every day.

I have 2 drops to take at night before an overnight dry eye ointment. I sometimes get distracted and then suddenly remember I've got to cram them all in before I go to bed which is annoying!

But it's OK as long as you leave at least 10 mins between each.

Thanks. I’d like to do whatever has the optimum effect obviously, but it’s a lot to keep track of, especially with keeping up with the lubricating drops (I’ve never been told how often Ishould be using these) as well
