How far apart should I take Cosopt?

YoungontheOutside profile image

This is prompted by another post. My consultant prescribed me Cosopt 1 drop x twice daily plus one drop Monopost at night. It seems I should take the Monopost shortly before going to bed, but I have never been given advice about when to take Cosopt. I usually administer one drop around 6:30-7am and then the next one at around 2:30pm. My Monopost drop then goes in around 10 pm. But now I am seeing some websites that say take one Cosopt in the morning another Im the evening. My eye pressure is very borderline and has been for quite some time but the doctors seem to want to just continue to monitor it. I am wondering if I adjust the timings of the Cosopt woukd this help?

I have the same drops, plus some other stuff. I don't get up at the same time every day so I just put one drop of Cosopt in as soon as I'm up and the second one as near to 12 hours later as I can get it. I don't worry too much if it's not exactly 12 hours. I usually put the Monopost in late in the evening.

12 years since first diagnosed. Have had various drops over the years. Currently on Azarga and Brimonidine Tartrate taken twice daily. Approx 8am and 8pm. Then Lumigan before bed (Usually 11pm).

I was only told to take first thing in morning, early evening and bedtime, with no specific gaps ever mentioned.

I do not think it's that critical, although have seen recent posts where people are concerned about timings.

I was told to use the two doses of Cosopt as near 12 hours apart as practical.

I am on brinzolamede and was reminded this year to take it 12 hours apart and lumigan at bedtime, although my eye pressure is good at present.

Hello everyone. It is best to take twice daily drops 12 hours apart, for example 8am and 8pm. This is because the action of the drop lasts for 12 hours and by doing it this way, it keeps you covered for 24 hours. If you do a drop at 8am and then the next one at 2.30pm then the action of the drop will wear off at 2:30am and your eyes will be without the effect of the drop, for five and a half hours.

On some occasions, it may be difficult to do the exact times and we usually say an hour window either side of the time is ok, as long as this infrequent. Given at the correct times, the drops will better control your eye pressures and glaucoma.

Hi Helen, thank you for your comments. I think the reason I was taking the Cosopt drops close together was because I have been taking Monopost just before going to bed and so spacing for three sets of drops (2 x Cosopt and 1×Monopost) approximately eight hours apart, and so taking Cosopt at 6 am and 2 pm and then the Monopost at 10 pm. But I think I may have misunderstood the function of the Monopost and its purpose may be somewhat different to that of the Cosopt.

Hi! I’m on the same procedure. My doctor told me to take the Cosopt drops within a fixed gap of 12 houres. The first drops I put in at 8.30u and the next ones at 20:30h. I take Monoprost just before going to bed. She insisted on the gap of 12 h. I put these hours in my smartphone, so I don’t have to think about it!
